The slender 6-foot-2, 160-pound combo guard cmae into high school at Benson Tech with a reputation and he did nothing but live up to it. Douangphrachanh finished with some great numbers for a freshman but he’s continuing to push on to reach his goals.
“I feel that it went good but I could have done better,” Douangphrachanh said. “I could have had more assists and more rebounds, but overall it was good. The shooting part (went well).”
To say that his shooting went well is an understatement. On the year, Douangphrachanh emerged as Benson’s top perimeter shooter, hitting 25 threes at a 37.9 clip, one of the top percentages in the PIL. He finished the season averaging 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds, numbers he wants to continue building up as he’s aiming for the highest heights when it comes to playing in college.
“I want to play D-I so I want to keep elevating my game and do the best I can,” Douangphrachanh said. “So I want to get more assists and get my team involved more.”
It’s early so Douangphrachanh is clearly keeping things open when it comes to any kind of recruitment. His focus right now is playing with the Rose City Rebels 15U squad, which will play on the EYBL the next couple of weeks. A smooth shooter from the perimeter, Douangphrachanh will provide outside shooting for the team but he also hopes to contribute with floor leadership and passing as well.
“We’ve got to keep playing more and get more chemistry but everything’s going good right now,” Douangphrachanh said. “I think we’re really good and we could be one of the top teams but we’ve got to keep working and keep working on our defense.”
Douangphrachanh will be a top ten ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 when those rankings are updated.
