Continue ReadingIn what started out as the last home game honoring the Seniors who have been part of the program, it turned into a game they’ll remember not only as Seniors, but as being part of one of the most exciting games ever played in the Christopher Gym according to the games announcer. The game itself got off to a slow start with both teams honoring their Seniors with the start. NMC 6-2 having a good season by any standards was locked in trying to knock off a quality team at home in Christopher 8-3. In the end it was a triple overtime win for Christopher with a couple of surprise contributors that propelled the team to a hard fought win. Cougars 80, 74 over a game NMC Squad. Here’s some standouts from the game.
Christopher Main Contributors:
Owen McCarry 6’2 Sr Guard of Christopher
McCarry was a key player in the game playing good hard nosed defense, and helping on the boards. His experience late in the game particularly the 3 O.T sessions were key in carrying this team to victory. His 8pts in the overtimes, and baskets with seconds remaining stood out. 10pts.
Rickey Becker 5’8 Jr Guard of Christopher
The 2022 was probably the hero of the game. He scored 13pts in the overtime sessions knocking down three 3pt shots just when it looked like the game was decided. Becker coming off the bench had been hitting shots throughout the contest. He was the leading scorer for his team, and the game with 4 second half 3’s and 23pts for game.
Malcolm Alston 5’8 Sr Guard of Christopher
Every now and then a player will get the team off to a good start. In this game Alston one of the Seniors starting for the game came out firing knocking down two 3pt shots in the first quarter, and starting the third quarter the same with with two corner 3’s to get play started. He finished with four 3’s for the game 12pts.
Ellison Yufenyuy 6’3 Jr Forward of Christopher
The wide bodied 2022 was a major contributor off the bench for the cougars. His good inside play, particularly his strong drives to the middle, and strong put backs proved to be a big help inside considering 6’6 2023 Chris Naulls Chris Naulls 6'4" | PF Christopher | 2023 State CA-N saw limited action in this game. 12pts. 7rebs.

Jason Mellin 6’3 Sr Forward of NMC
Mellin produced quality performance keeping his team involved with solid jumpers in the key, using good balance with jump stops, and other moves to score his points. His hustle plays can’t go unnoticed, diving for several loose ball, and keeping the ball live on the boards. He was a solid contributor with his inside/out game performance. His 15pts in the overtime sessions, with a deep 3 at the buzzer was impressive. 21pts, 5rebs, 2stls.
Santi Dent 6’2 Sr Forward of NMC:
Dent came as close to a double-double as any player in this game. Being undersized at 6’2 he showed a good post area game. No post ups but good inside play. His effectiveness on the drive, and working the high post, led to key buckets throughout the game, he had key rebounds, and put backs late in the game. He contributed 18pts, with 8 rebounds.
Gio Mellin 6’2 Jr Guard of NMC:
Mellin was a solid performer in this game, with his handles, and good foot speed. He was able to repeatedly get buy defenders on the drive from the perimeter to collapse the defense using a good jump stop, and balance. He showed good speed, and strength in transition finishes, along with a nice Euro step for a bucket. 12pts.
