Julian Reese Julian Reese 6'8" | C St. Frances | 2021 State #109 Nation MD | St. Frances
Ranking: No. 7
Positional Ranking (center): No. 1
Prior to MIAA/BCL play when the Black Panthers were competing against nationally ranked teams, Reese lived well up to the hype of being a future Big Ten forward. For whatever reason once league play began, his production took a hit. He was still active in stints as a shot blocker, rebounder and above the rim finisher when on the receiving end of dump off passes, but much of his versatility shown in the early goings of the season disappeared. Still, the 6-foot-10 lefty has all of the tools to become a very good big man by his junior season at the college level. He took major strides in development from the time he was a freshman in high school to now. If he’s able to to the same in college, his future will be very bright.
Kevin Kalu Kevin Kalu 6'10" | C Mt. Carmel | 2021 State MD | Mt. Carmel
Ranking: No. 18
Positional Ranking (center): No. 3
Had Kalu been in the conference as a junior, he would’ve run away with the most improved player award. The 6-foot-8 big man was an automatic double-double whenever he stepped on the floor. They weren’t just 12 points and 10 rebounds either. Kalu recorded games with stat lines such as 19 points and 16 boards with regularity. He was flat out dominant on the glass at both ends and is one of the best offensive rebounders I’ve evaluated along with Jamal West Jamal West 6'5" | PF St. Frances Academy | 2020 State #334 Nation MD (South Alabama). His tenacious finishing at the rim had me convinced he would shatter a backboard or break a rim once this season, but all made it out in one piece. There’s no doubt in my mind that Kalu could help a low major program and if allowed a redshirt season, could even be considered at the mid-major level.
Jamai Felt Jamai Felt 6'8" | C Randallstown | 2021 State MD | Randallstown
Ranking: No. 25
Positional Ranking (center): No. 5
Felt didn’t have the chance to take the floor officially, but was the city’s biggest stock riser last summer due to his play with Team Choo. Felt is a 6-foot-8 lefty forward with explosive athleticism and the body makeup to become a nice Division I prospect. High high energy is showcased when running the floor or tracking down rebounds out of his area. He’s shown glimpses of a decent three-point shot when left open, but he’s at his best in the open floor where he can be an elite lob threat. Felt also has great timing when it comes to blocking shots around the rim. All signs point to Felt elected to go prep after this school year, but there is no answer on where he will attend.
Sean Carr Sean Carr 6'6" | PF Mount St. Joseph | 2021 State MD | Mt. St. Joseph
Ranking: No. 35
Positional Ranking (power forward): No. 4
Carr put together a productive senior season as he took on much more of a scoring role for the Gaels. His athleticism and versatility as a scorer were the two areas of his game that grew significantly. It made him a threat as a trailer in transition from the three-point line as well as a strong finisher in the open floor. He also seemed to polish his post game when his back is to the basket and as we saw last season, still had sound vision as a passer and decision-maker when he didn’t have a clean looks. Carr holds one offer from Chestnut Hill and has multiple Division III programs recruiting him aggressively.
Cam Smith Cam Smith 6'7" | PF Loyola | 2021 State MD | Loyola
Ranking: No. 38
Positional Ranking (power forward): No. 5
Smith was another senior who took hold of the leadership role and an increased scoring responsibility for his team. The 6-foot-7 forward is equipped with solid athleticism and while his mid-range and three-point game still need polish, he has soft touch around the rim on drives. Smith is a versatile defender who can guard either frontcourt position while maintaining a presence on the glass and protecting the rim.
Malik Missouri Malik Missouri 6'5" | PF Gilman | 2021 State MD | Gilman
Ranking: No. 116
Positional Ranking (power forward): No. 17
Missouri has overcome much adversity throughout his high school career dealing with different injuries that stunted his development. Still, he poses solid size at 6-foot-5 and can knock down mid-range jumpers when he’s in rhythm. A number of Division III schools are on Missouri and last I heard he was very close in making his decision.
