Jared Billups Jared Billups 6'5" | SF McDonogh | 2021 State MD | McDonogh
Ranking: No. 16
Positional Ranking: No. 4
The Eagles had their fair share of struggles this season due to an overturned roster, but Billups stayed strong and fulfilled roles for his team that weren’t expected going into the season. The 6-foot-5 wing was featured often as an initiator offensively and had to get used to handling the ball against pressure with regularity. It’s great when looking at it from a developmental perspective, but in a league as tough as the MIAA, you need to have a true point guard to win games. Still, Billups stepped up and played out of position and through injury as a testament to his commitment while showing progression in his overall game. He has ability to take over a game when he wants and causes mismatches thanks to his versatility. He’ll head to Siena next season where he should enjoy a long, productive collegiate career.
Barry Evans Barry Evans 6'7" | SF Poly | 2021 State MD | Poly
Ranking: No. 17
Positional Ranking: No. 5
Evans didn’t get the chance to play officially under the whistle this season, but in Poly’s scrimmages he proved to be one of the top unsigned seniors in the state of Maryland. He has great size and length at 6-foot-7 to go with explosive athleticism that allows him to put opposing defenders on posters. Evans has a lot of work to do putting on weight, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t more than willing to crash the glass with relentless determination and get physical. His jumper is still a work in progress, but there are signs that he can become a capable three-point threat by the time he’s a sophomore in college. Because of his size, athleticism and versatility, Evans is a valuable defender who can guard multiple positions. All signs point to Evans going prep, but I strongly believe he could help a low major program next season if one took a chance on him.
Ramon Villanueva Ramon Villanueva 6'5" | SF Sparrows Point | 2021 State MD | Sparrows Point
Ranking: No. 76
Positional Ranking: No. 20
Like Evans, Villanueva didn’t have a chance at playing officially with COVID shutting down the Maryland Public School season. He’s a 6-foot-4 wing with good basketball IQ. The Sparrows Point standout has a smooth jumper with an efficient clip from three, mid-range and the free-throw line. He’s a good rebounder considering his size for the position and has room to grow overall as a player. Division III programs and prep schools are involved with Villanueva up to this point.
Dinari Boykin Dinari Boykin 6'4" | SF Archbishop Curley | 2021 State MD | Archbishop Curley
Ranking: No. 130
Positional Ranking: No. 28
I recently caught Boykin in action at Team Thrill’s unsigned senior event and he was impressive early on. He has a strong frame at 6-foot-4 and can score in a variety of ways. He attacks the rim with aggression and accepts contact on the way. In transition, his athleticism comes to light where he can finish over the rim. Defensively he can be used in many ways because of his versatility, adding to his worth. Boykin’s recruitment has been very quiet which has been a surprise to me considering the tools he has to offer at the Division III level right away.
Jaylen Amoruso Jaylen Amoruso 6'4" | SF Dulaney | 2021 State MD | Dulaney
Ranking: No. 134
Positional Ranking: No. 30
You won’t find many players who invest more energy at both ends of the floor than Amoruso. He’s still to this day one of the most energetic players that I’ve covered. With that being said, his overall skill set still needs significant polish, but he intrigues programs with his size and athleticism at 6-foot-4. Navy offered Amoruso a spot on their prep team, but he remains unsigned. Other than the Navy prep offer, it’s unknown as to what his recruiting picture looks like.
