A number of sophomores who were former prep stars in Oregon will play their sophomore seasons and thanks to NCAA/NWAC ruling, preserve a year of eligibility and will be able to transfer to a four-year school with three years of eligibility. Here’s a look at a few of these top sophomores.
Dominic McGarvey – 2019 Sheldon/Lane CC – McGarvey had a solid freshman season at Lane, averaging 8.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocked shots. At 6-foot-9, he’s a mobile big man who runs the floor and finishes well in transition, and has a nice touch both around the basket and facing up. With his combination of size and mobility, he is attracting recruiting attention from a number of levels.
Isaac Lange – 2019 Thurston/Lane CC – Super-athletic combo guard had a great first year campaign at Lane, averaging 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting just under 53 percent from the field. The 6-foot-1 guard plays above the rim but has also refined his perimeter shooting, hitting almost 43 percent from three last year.
Taylor Pomeroy – 2019 Franklin/Lower Columbia (WA) CC – A high-scoring combo guard in high school, Pomeroy served in a role off of the bench to the tune of 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-2 guard is a solid shooter with range – he hit just under 39 percent from three last year – but can also create off the dribble for himself and for others.
Trevon Richmond – 2019 Jefferson/Portland CC – After being a supporting player at Jefferson in high school, Richmond exploded onto the NWAC scene and averaged 21.1 points at Bellevue last season. A high energy guy who also averaged 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting almost 39 percent from three-point range, the 6-foot guard decided to transfer back home and attend PCC but the Panthers will not play in 2021.
Kadeem Nelson – 2019 De La Salle North/Linn-Benton CC – Nelson burst onto the NWAC scene in a big way as a freshman, averaging 14.3 pionts, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. At 6-foot-2, he has a good combination of length and skill level, capable of scoring in a number of different ways as well as guarding a number of different positions on the floor.
