The event is being held at multiple locations around the Phoenix area and features teams from 10U all the way up to 17U. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the Local Standouts from Day 1
Alpha Chibambe Alpha Chibambe 6'4" | SF JSerra | 2022 CA-S 6’4 SF Ocean City Elite 2022 (featured image) (#37PHSC 2022) – The more I see Chibambe play, the more impressed I become with him. His athleticism is obvious, but what I am starting to notice is that he adds a little more to his game each time out. Today it was his ability to be a playmaker. Chibambe’s ability to grab it off the board and attack players downhill is nice, and when you combine his athleticism, he becomes special. The point forward has recently received offers from Pepperdine and USCB.
Cameron Brown 6’2 PG WCE Nor Cal Carter 2022 – Brown displayed good vision and the ability to handle against pressure. He got into the lane and was able to finish with his strong hand, however his strength was finding the open man after forcing the defense to collapse. The high academic performer sports a 4.2 GPA.
Tony Nija 6’1 CG Team Build Up 2021 – Team Build up put on the best performance I saw on the day, and Nija was a huge reason why. The guard known for his toughness and defense, was electric on the offensive end, knocking down a slue of 3’s to help Build up to a victory over a very talented EBO team.
John Connolly 6’6 SF Team Build Up 2021 – The talented wing put on a show along with Nija, his off the bounce game was working, as he continuously got to the rim and finished. The added dimension was his rim protection, as the 6’6 wing blocked several shot attempts when coming from the weakside. Like all the Build up guys, his effort, energy and help defense was on point.
Kai Johnson Kai Johnson 6'1" | SG Highland | 2022 State CA-S 6’6 SF Team Build Up 2021 (#68PHSC 2021) – If it seems like TBU is getting a ton of love, it’s because they are. Johnson was another Build up guy that did it first on the defensive end and then showed off his offensive skills. The wing displays terrific lateral quickness and athletic ability to go along with an underrated passing skill set.
Mister Burnside 6’2 SG WCE LA Wright 2024 – Burnside was as good as advertised. The freshmen guard stood out on a floor full of high level 2023 performers. His shooting ability was nice, but what I loved about him was his poise and basketball IQ. Burnside never rushed and seemed to understand time, score, and situation like a seasoned vet.
Dylan Hayman 6’5 SF NBBA Black 2021 – Hayman is another point forward type that I loved. He showed a terrific ability to handle against pressure and made shots when left open. The high academic performer carries a 3.8 GPA and has received some Patriot League interest recently.
