Where will the state’s top-ranked player in the Class of 2021 decide to attend and play college basketball at? We admit we don’t have any inside knowledge of the situation, but based our many conversations in the past and what he’s said in other interviews with the media and recruiting analysts, we take a look at the top possibilities.
While Gregg lists the logos of 17 different schools on the graphic he released on social media announcing his decision date and he’s refrained from having an official list of leaders, it seems that his choice will likely come from this short list of schools:
Arizona – The Wildcats offered Gregg back in late April and have been heavily recruiting him ever since. He has talked with a member of the coaching staff every day and has mentioned how Arizona is the type of program that could really prepare himself for professional basketball. Head coach Sean Miller has yet to get on the board with his first frontcourt recruit in the Class of 2021 and Gregg would be a big catch.
Gonzaga – When we first met and interviewed Gregg way back in June after his freshman year at Columbia Christian, he didn’t hold back on naming his “dream school” – the Zags. But while Gonzaga has steadily recruited Gregg over the years, an offer didn’t come until just recently – and seemed to be tied to other top recruits choosing to commit outside of Spokane. Gregg had seemingly soured on the Bulldogs in recent interviews, does the late offer make up for things enough for him to commit?
Oregon – Interestingly, the Ducks haven’t been mentioned as much in connection with Gregg as maybe some of the other schools, but you better bet head coach Dana Altman would love to add the top player in the state. Altman came out to watch Gregg play with Clackamas on a number of occasions last year and the allure of staying close to home and playing for the top program in the state certainly has its allure. In Eugene there’s also the possibility of finally playing together with former rival Nathan Bittle Nathan Bittle 6'11" | C Prolific Prep | 2021 State #20 Nation CA-N , who has been Oregon’s #1 priority for quite some time.
Oregon State – The Beavers have arguably been on Gregg the longest and the hardest for any of the major conference schools that have been recruiting him. The Beavers are also the one and only program that he has made an official visit to before things were shut down nationally due to the pandemic. Gregg recently indicated however that some of the recruiting love had died down but it’s hard to imagine that he isn’t a priority for head coach Wayne Tinkle. If relationships come into play, the Beavers may have the greatest edge.
Virginia – Virginia has not officially offered Gregg a scholarship but head coach Tony Bennett does things a little differently than most and there’s no question the Cavaliers would accept a commitment from the Clackamas senior. Gregg has indicated that the connection with Bennett goes beyond just basketball as they have also connected on their faiths and the possibility of playing the ACC is certainly intriguing, but Charlottesville is quite far from home especially compared to the other schools recruiting him.
Where will Gregg decide to go? Stay tuned on September 9th.
