There was a ton of competition and hard play. Kids were playing together and really listening to our coaches and making sure they made plays in front of the many media members in the gym.
Here is a look at Part 1 of the top standouts from the 2021-2022 classes.
AJ Brown AJ Brown 6'4" | CG Orlando Christian Prep | 2022 State #190 Nation FL | 6-4 | Orlando Christian Prep
A highly skilled ballhandler and a player who can weave past defenders, Brown is simply hitting his stride. A long 2022 guard, the vision and dynamic play from him was steady in all three games. He can shoot it, drive to the hoop and push the cause. Stetson, Alabama, Hofstra and USF have all offered but plenty more will come for the junior. Brown has a nice mix of burst and pure athleticism. He has an all-around game and doesn’t have much to not like. Adding more muscle will certainly give him a better advantage defensively. The sky is the limit for the Orlando Christian Prep starter.
Justin Neely Justin Neely 6'5" | CG West Oaks | 2021 State FL | 6-5 | Miami
Neely is a true point forward and one of the most gifted scorers in the state. Averaging a double double and close to a triple double as a junior, he flashed his mid-range jumper, handles and smooth moves to the rack on Saturday. Always active, Neely fights for his points and makes life easier for his teammates. The 2021 Miami High athlete has a locked-in mentality and doesn’t shy away from anyone. With offers from UTSA, Rice, Temple, Washington State and VCU, Neely’s recruitment will line up shortly. His body is stronger and he looks more fluid in his overall speed.
Ven-Allen Lubin Ven-Allen Lubin 6'7" | PF Orlando Christian Prep | 2022 State #144 Nation FL | 6-7 | Orlando Christian Prep
Things are getting easier and easier on the basketball court for Lubin. The 2022 forward can run an offense with his sound handles and his quiet confidence makes his game stand out on both ends of the floor. Lubin was getting to the hole early and often and as the day picked up, the better his play did. He’s a true strength and energy player who has a lot of length and overall upside. Lubin was shooting it well and is clearly in the gym often to train and further his stock. UF, Iowa State, Stetson, USF, Alabama and St. John’s have offered and I expect many more Division I schools to come calling.
Brice Sensabaugh Brice Sensabaugh 6'6" | PF Lake Highland Prep | 2022 State #104 Nation FL | 6-6 | Lake Highland Prep
One of the premier shooting guards in the state and a true leader at Lake Highland Prep, Sensabaugh was cooking on Saturday. His outside shot is seasoned and his ability to hurt you quickly is always there with his instincts. He is a big body who can get inside and dunk on you and battle for boards and finishes as well. A dynamic and rounded prospect, Sensabaugh holds offers from SMU, USF and Stetson right now. The 2022 guard is a versatile player who is a tough-nosed defender and will draw the attention of college coaches with his consistent effort and high volume scoring ability.
Matthew Lentz Matthew Lentz 6'7" | PF Durant | 2021 State FL | 6-7 | Durant
A highly talented touch shooter, Lentz has endless length and when he puts his head down and attacks the rim, he isn’t easy to stop. He is constantly training, getting stronger and better in his burst and overall speed. It was on full display on Saturday at the expo as the 2021 guard/forward showed why he projects as a talented wing/undersized big at the next level. His 3-point shot is a thing of beauty and can burn defenses in the blink of an eye. Lentz is playing his best basketball right now and college coaches better get involved before it is too late.
Elliott Yorke Elliott Yorke 5'11" | CG West Orange | 2021 State FL | 6-0 | West Orange
Yorke has flourished the last few seasons as an important offensive weapon. Previously at Windermere, he is now at West Orange and on Saturday, the 2021 guard proved to me that he is ready to take the next step. He plays with poise, a steady gear and gets his teammates going with smart passing. His jumper is smooth and his ability to get to the bucket at his size is a joy to watch. Yorke is packed with strength in his lower body and that gives him an advantage when he pushes the ball up the floor and gets inside.
