Nor-Cal was well represented, as a deep and talented crop of youngsters put the camp on notice. In this article PH takes a look at some of the local players that stood out.
Tyler Harris Tyler Harris 6'6" | SF Granada | 2023 State #210 Nation CA-N 6’7 SF Newark Memorial 2023 (#5PHNC 2023) – Harris is a good looking prospect. A long limbed physical specimen with an athletic frame. Gets off the floor with ease, Harris was at his best in transition, but he did show good vision and some above average passing skills.
Courtney Anderson Courtney Anderson 6'4" | SG Dublin | 2023 State #151 Nation CA-N Jr. 6’4 SG Dublin 2023 (#8PHNC 2023) – Long athlete that plays with a good motor. Anderson was able to manufacture points by getting out in transition, and grabbing offensive rebounds. His efforts were rewarded with a top 30 game selection.
Derek Lamb Derek Lamb 6'6" | PF Whitney | 2023 State CA-N 6’6 PF Oakmont 2023 – What I really like most about Lamb was his willingness to challenge shots. Not the most explosive athlete, however he did a terrific job of being in help position and staying between his man and the basket. He finished each defensive possession with a fundamental close out. Lamb was selected to the top 60 game for his efforts.
Ahmaree McCullough 5’10 PG St Joseph 2023 – Jitterbug PG was all over the court. He’s an above average athlete, who shows quite a bit of imagination on his drives. Defensively he was the best on ball defender I saw at the camp. McCullough was a thief with lighting quick hands.
Josiah Johnson 5’9 PG Sheldon 2023 – Johnson was a bulldog all weekend. He defended well especially when guarding on ball. He also displayed a pretty good offensive skill set. Johnson slashed to the basket and used a variety of Euros, and 1, 2’s to find space for finishes.
Ben Roseborough 6’3 CG St Hope Charter 2024 – Not sure if he’s a 1 or a 2 but whatever he is, he’s impressive. Absolutely destroyed defenders on his way to the hole. Roseborough played like a running back shedding defenders before finishing at the rim. Showed a good handler and nice burst on his drives, on his way to being selected to the top 60 game.
King – Jhsanni Wilhite 6’0 PG Archbishop Riordan 2023 – KJW played well on both sides of the ball. Competed with a high motor, creating turnovers on the defensive end, while using his speed and quickness to put pressure on defenders.
Ty Virgil 6’2 SG Franklin 2024 – Virgil has a smooth game. The lefty shoots it with range and lulled defenders to sleep before exploding to the basket. Showed the willingness to sit in a stance and defend on ball. Virgil was selected to the top 60 game.
Yaqub Mir Yaqub Mir 6'3" | SG Granite Bay | 2023 State CA-N 6’2 SG Granite Bay 2023 (#21PHNC) – Starting to become one of my favorite young guards on the west coast. Mir has a phenomenal feel for the game. Shoots it well, has a solid handle and is one of the better young passers on the left coast. He was selected to the top 60 game.
