The lanky 6-foot-7, 180-pound wing/forward has been safely working out in the gym, on his own and with training, looking to expand on his skills to get ready for his junior season – one in which he’s looking forward to big things in a new program.
“I’ve been training every week, just working on improving my game,” Rowell said. “So ball-handling, passing, dribble pull-ups, and just shooting in general – I’m working on transitioning to big guard as that will help both me and my team get better as well as help get me to the college level.”
Rowell was originally set on playing with Elite 24 this club basketball season. The hope was to make up for some lost time this past year at Mountainside, one in which he swung varsity but unfortunately missed more than half of the JV season due to dealing with illness for most of the year.
“It was good but I was sick a lot during the season,” Rowell said. “I only got into 11 (JV) games but out of those games I felt like I did pretty good.”
Older brother Grayson Rowell Grayson Rowell 6'1" | SG Mountainside | 2020 State OR graduated from Mountainside this past year so once school ended, the family made the decision to move to Lake Oswego, where his mom grew up and attended Lake Oswego High School. As a result, Rowell has transferred to be a part of Laker Nation and he’s ready to get rolling.
“I’m up for the challenge and going to a new program,” Rowell said. “It’s a great program and I’m excited. I’ve done a few workouts with Coach (Marshall) Cho already and I really like him – he’s a good coach. I really feel like there are good things coming up soon.”
While it’s a little early given he’s yet to play a full varsity season, but Rowell does have his eyes on playing at the college level. When you watch Rowell play, there’s no doubt he has that kind of potential as shoot the ball well especially for someone his height. As of now he has goals but is keeping everything open.
“It’s going to be the right fit – doesn’t matter if it’s D-I or D-II, I just want to go somewhere where it’s the right fit,” Rowell said. “I would like to stay on the West Coast though, going to a California school would be nice. But it’s anything really.”
For now, his focus is on the season ahead and being a part of something special. “I definitely see myself fitting in,” Rowell said. “I feel like I can bring in another piece of the puzzle to the program and really help them win a lot of games and the state championship hopefully.”
Rowell currently ranks as the #14 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2022 rankings.
