Standouts included:
Dylan Wolle Dylan Wolle 6'3" | SG Sequoyah | 2022 State GA (SG, 6-2, Sequoyah) – Generating more live buzz than a Kylie Jenner IG post during the weekend, Wolle was just tremendous the whole tournament, much less the first day, the hard work he’s clearly been putting in off the court is paying huge dividends as he expands his game from mere deadeye gunner to daring all-around threat with the ball, he already was a good passer reacting to teams closing out on him beyond the arc, now he’s attacking the basket with authority and converting and improved foot speed has him emerging as a defensive force as well, there’s a lot to like about his evolving game for the Chiefs star-in-the-making.
Caleb Richardson Caleb Richardson 6'7" | PF Cherokee | 2022 State GA (SF, 6-5, Cherokee) – Richardson, like Wolle, is using this early summer slate to get people talking, there’s a growing confidence and assertiveness to his game which any coach would notice as we continue to watch the rangy forward, more than anything else his rebounding and superb defense around the rim have jumped to the forefront and was on display in both games, add to those positives more power attacking the rim as well as a real joy at getting out on the break, all will have Warrior fans pumped to see him alongside the many weapons on hand at Cherokee.
Alex Acosta Alex Acosta 6'5" | PF North Cobb | 2022 State GA (PF, 6-4, North Cobb) – When you assess a player for all the things he does well without having to mention his scoring output, Acosta is that type of player, his offensive game continues to show improvement as he works away from the basket, but Acosta will do so many other things to help beat you – exceptional rebounding instincts and a nose for the ball, elite post defending and shot-blocking and terrific hands and athleticism on the break, these are more than enough to garner prominent sniffs from coaches at the next level and as his scoring acumen takes shape he will be even more hard to miss.
Fisher Mitchell (C, 6-5, Sequoyah) – In an era where centers can be relegated to quiet rebounders and shot-blockers, it’s refreshing to see a young man’s offensive game develop as a true 5 would have in the long lost age of Kareem and Hakeem, facing larger frontlines all day Mitchell showed a fearless approach to getting his shot off, be it what’s become a trademark baby hook or a quick release mid-range J which he knocked down with accuracy, as he, Wolle and the other young stars at Sequoyah take on larger roles this coming winter his game will be a critical complement to the perimeter threats on the Chiefs roster.
