Whether it’s AAU or high school summer ball, I would have seen well over a hundred games before we got to July. Here’s some things I’m looking for as we move through the summer and into their Sophomore seasons.
Colin Porter Colin Porter 5'11" | PG Ashland | 2022 State KY , Ashland – Porter is a top 5 player in our 2023 rankings and just helped Ashland to an undefeated regular season. What is there to prove you may ask? I would love to see Porter go head to head with anyone else in the top of the class. For the past couple of years, Colin has played his AAU out of state and even out of country when he played with an Canadian team. It would be great to see Porter go head to head with players like Reed Sheppard Reed Sheppard 6'3" | PG North Laurel | 2023 State #22 Nation KY and Dallas Roberts Dallas Roberts 6'1" | PG North Oldham | 2023 State KY whether its in AAU, high school or even in a camp setting.
Trey Skaggs Trey Skaggs 6'5" | PG Great Crossing | 2023 KY , Madison Central – Skaggs has been one of my favorite players in the class since he came to a camp and competed against kids a year older. But if Trey isn’t going to grow much more, he needs to prove he is athletic enough to play on the wing and guard against athletic wing players. Skaggs’ college potential is ultimately going to be determined by what position he winds up at. His skill level is high but he’ll need to show he can guard athletic wings to reach his ceiling and avoid the dreaded “tweener” label.
Ryan Davidson Ryan Davidson 6'4" | SF North Laurel | 2023 State KY , North Laurel – Davidson is a really nice player with a high ceiling. The ultimate hurdle for him (right now) is that he has to show that he is just as good of a prospect as Reed Sheppard Reed Sheppard 6'3" | PG North Laurel | 2023 State #22 Nation KY is. Ryan doesn’t get nearly as much said or written about him but he has made an impressive transformation to his game over the last couple of years and has become a really good wing. To reach his D1 dreams, he will need to prove he can play both on and off the ball.
Keith Robinson Keith Robinson 6'5" | PF Pleasure Ridge Park | 2023 State KY , DeSales – Robinson has a great motor and a seemingly really good work ethic. His ceiling is ultimately going to be determined by which position he plays at the next level. Keith should be living on the shoot-a-way gun and working on ball handling all summer and into next season. He has a chance to be a good wing forward prospect and could be a stretch 4 if he continues to grow. The natural progression for him either way is to become a more wing-oriented player and he needs to show a tighter handle and improved jumper in his Sophomore season.
Ian Higdon Ian Higdon 6'6" | PF North Oldham | 2023 State KY , North Oldham – You can just about say “ditto” for Higdon that was said for Robinson. Ian is longer and more athletic than his brother who just graduated and is a more natural wing prospect. But Ian is going to have to show he’s comfortable out there or his college potential takes a major hit.
