This list of prospects are some names you might not know. Many of these prospects play in small divisions and leagues, and don’t get the exposure of some of the higher division prospects.
Nick Aray 5’10 Guard, Stockton Christian, (Stockton, CA)
Araya is the 3rd leading scorer the San Joaquin County with an average of 25.8 and a total of 800 pts on the season. He’s an exciting player to watch as he consistently put on a scoring clinic throughout the season. He has good speed with the ball constantly in attack mode, uses good court vision to find open teammates for easy baskets with all the attention he gets.
Jayson Phillips 6’1 Combo guard, Stagg HS (Stockton, CA)
Phillips the solid body prospect contributes in a lot of ways on this team. He’s a calm steady player that shows good leadership. He does a quality job of running the team in half court sets, and he’s a strong driver who can finish, he has a nice dribble drive pull up jumper in the paint. Because the team lacked size at 6’1 he was an excellent post player. He averaged 17.9 ppg, 10.2 rebs, 2.3 stls.
Malik Cotta 5’10 Point guard Lincoln HS (Stockton CA)
Cotta is an improving pass first point guard, who’s proven he can get to the rim in the crunch. Cotta shows good patience at the top directing the team in half court sets. A solid body point guard with good handles, who pushes the break often, making the right decision on the pass. He’s good at attacking on the penetration, then kicking it out to shooters or dumping it off to the big. 7.3 ppg, 4.6 rebs, 3.8 asts, and 1.1 stls. A good on ball defender with good lateral movement.
Patrick Haynes Jr. 6’6 Forward, Venture Academy (Stockton CA)
Haynes Jr has a nice strong body, long arms, strong hands and he’s aggressive on both ends of the court. He’s a good rebounder who hustle up the court in transition. He’s got good presence inside to block and protect from easy baskets. He does a decent out on the perimeter defending against the drive. Improving his offensive skills would see his stock rise stock, 7.3 ppg, 5 rebs. Has a good upside.
Eddie Cotton 6’6 Forward, Lathrop HS (Lathrop, CA)
Cotton a prospect who looks like his best days are ahead of him. He has good size and length to be a quality post area player. With continued work on his post area game, footwork and finishing he could see his game rise to a new level. He’s a finisher on the 2nd chance rebound. He averaged 15 ppg, 9.3 rebs. Keep an eye on him.
Nicko Rodriguez 6’4 Wing, Mountain House HS ( Mountain House, CA)
An active prospect who brings hustle and energy to court. I might have to put him in the glue guy category. He earns every point he gets, with his relentless effort rebounding with put backs on the offensive end. He fills the lanes in transition knowing he might not get it, although he can finish with authority in transition. He has good foot speed in defending on the perimeter and a strong enough body to have success in defending the post. Improving his shooting and range will raise his game. He averaged 16.2 ppg, 4.8 rebs.
