However, colleges still do not stop handing out offers, and Section III basketball showcased some of the absolute best players in the state. Looking ahead to next season, expect these players to make waves in the Finger Lakes conference, and hopefully beyond.
Michael Frimpong | Sophomore | Indian River
In Michael Frimpong’s first legitimate varsity action, Frimpong absolutely exceeded expectations. On a team with a crowded backcourt and a dominant frontcourt, Frimpong was able to carve out starting and sixth-man minutes. Frimpong was able to star at his catch and shoot role, with him spreading the floor on the perimeter. Frimpong still has typical guard qualities, such as being able to run the offense and drive to the rim, which should come in handy as he looks to take over the team for next season.
Lincoln Becker | Junior | Beaver River
Lincoln Becker realized his Beaver River team needed to put more points on the board, so Becker took it upon himself to do just that. Becker has excelled when “points” is his job description, and looking at his skill set, it looks rightfully so. Becker is able to cash in on the perimeter, whether it’s from his own shot or off a quick pass from a teammate. Becker is able to drive to the rim in bulk, and regularly cash in at the paint and the line. Looking ahead to next season, he seems to be one of the top scorers in the Finger Lakes.
Ian Anderson | Junior | South Lewis
Ian Anderson has been the terrific new-age point guard that South Lewis needed to keep their season alive. While a point-guards typical responsibility is setting up the offense and bringing up the ball, Anderson has proved he can do so much more. Anderson can shoot from the md-range and the perimeter with consistency and frequency. Anderson is also able to drive to the rim in volume, and can still set up teammates and run the offense.
Kyle Gaumes | Junior | Lyme
In his renaissance season for Lyme, Kyle Gaumes has exploded as a scorer. The speed and athleticism of Gaumes allows him to contort himself around defenders to force contact or to get an easy sightline of the basket. Gaumes has the right defensive IQ to force a fastbreak for his team, and he can shoot off his own fastbreak or the pass of a teammate.
Cody Powis | Junior | Copenhagen
Cody Powis has made himself an all-around offensive player in his junior season in Copenhagen. Powis can be a force through rim penetration, but his primary offensive skill is his ability to let the ball fly from the perimeter, with both consistency and frequency. Powis is also able to shift his game to become the primary ball-handler, where he becomes an elite backcourt, ball-dominant force.
Wyatt Parliament | Sophomore | LaFargeville
Along with graduating senior Jarett Breach, Wyatt Parliament combined to form a devastating one-two punch which has proven to decimate offenses. With Breach’s departure, it looks like Parliament will take over the primary offensive duties without a doubt for the 2021 season, and rightfully so. Parliament excels in every facet of the offense, from his passing attack, to his deadly jump shot, to his controlling playmaking, as well as his speed and rim penatration.
Taylib Kimball | Junior | Sandy Creek
Sandy Creek had a disappointing season in the record books, but if they had one bright spot, it would, without a doubt, be Taylib Kimball. In a season where it seemed like Kimball would be all alone, Kimball made the most of the situation, and when the situation presented itself, Kimball delivered his team the win. As junior turns senior, Kimball looks to have a majestic final season filled with his trademark volume scoring.
