This list of prospects from this area may not be known to most hoop watchers, but are definitely a must see in high school basketball locally. With the lock down still ongoing in parts of NorCal here are some players who might not get the opportunities to be evaluated by media and college coaches.
Brenden Holmes 6’2 Shooting Guard, Escalon HS (Escalon, CA)
Holmes has a wingspan as long as you can have on a 6’2 frame. He’s a feisty competitor and can flat out shoot if not accounted for. He averaged 19.6 ppg, 7.1 rebs, 3.1 ast, 2.5 stl. He had a season high 36 points, and nailed 7 three pointers in a game this season. One dribble, spot up, deep range, he hit it. Throw in some floaters on the drive. He has some areas to work on his game, but it’s not shooting.
Arvind Sandhu 5’11 Guard Central Catholic HS, (Modesto, CA)
Sandhu will get the opportunity to step into the lead role with this team. He’s a good all around guard with good vision and solid post entry passes. He gets the ball up fast in transition, and makes solid up court passess to teammates. He has good body control on the penetration to the basket and a quality floater, and mid range jumper. A good ball mover who can also hit the open three. He averaged 16.1 ppg.
Josiah Frank 5’11 Guard, Pitman HS (Turlock, CA)
A solid body scoring guard for his team. Frank can score in different ways he’s good at coming off screen and getting into his shot. He’s a strong driver with some abilities to draw the foul, he has a strong baseline drive attacking from either side and likes to spot up for 3 in the corner. He doesn’t force it, he lets the game come to him. A solid player to track. He averaged 20.7 ppg.
Yanick Andzuouana 6’4 Wing, Patterson HS (Patterson, CA)
I’m putting this prospect in the glue guy club. He’s a long armed thin framed prospect who doesn’t score a lot, but is on the court, because of his play, he’s active, he’s an effective rebounder, he gets his fair share of blocks, and he sprints the floor in transition. He finds the open player with solid passing. He has the tools to be a top defender. With added muscle and more offensive skill development his game will rise. He averaged 7.4 ppg, 7.5 rebs, led his team in assists, and steals.
Robert Smid 6’3 Wing, Atwater HS (Atwater, CA)
Smid has a solid offensive game, he can score inside and out, he has good footwork when he’s in the mid post area, a nice turnaround jumper from there, but he’s most effective on the wing. A versatile player who can score it in multiple ways, driving and hitting 3’s. He’s a good mover on the court, with and without the ball. He’s a patient shooter who’ll score when the opportunity presents itself. A little more foot speed, and strength will raise his game. He averaged 18.1 ppg, 6.5 rebs.
Dishawn Mccutchen 6’7 Wing/Post, El Capitan HS (Merced, CA)
A long and rangy prospect who needs to add bulk to his frame. Mccutchen is a active player who gets up and down the court at a good pace. Being long and wiry he brings a shot blocking element, that gives him post presence on the defensive end, he tends to pick up cheap fouls. He has a decent shot and can score. He averaged 10.7 ppg. He has good length with more skill work could see his game rise.
