Today, we are continuing our series on each of the major cities/regions in the state. Indiana is loaded with talent and this is a fun exercise to see how talent over a few classes stack up in areas. So, we are looking at each area and taking in 2021, 2022, and 2023 prospects and ranking our Top 10. Today, we have The Region.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="769653" first="Jalen" last="Washington"] - 6’7 PF 2022 - Gary West (IN)

Jalen is a kid that has missed a ton of time already in his short career but when he is healthy, he is one of the players that you know is going to be special. Outstanding combination of size, athleticism, length, and skill. At 6’7, he can handle the ball and shoots it well. Needs polish but that will come with more time. Huge upside.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="569306" first="Kyle" last="Ross"] - 6’7 PF 2021 - Lake Central (IN)

Kyle is a big, strong forward that can mix it up inside and out. Not a guy that is bound by any one skill but the combination of his shooting and low post work makes him intriguing. Has more of a motor he can dig into but when it is on he can be a force down low. Good talent for the Region.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="783148" first="Chris" last="Mantis"] - 6’6 SF 2021 - Lowell (IN)

Mantis is a long, rangy wing that can do a ton on the ball and has guard skills. He’s got some room to go on his frame and add some weight but with his size and skill he can make a ton of plays. Good shooter, really good passer, and high IQ. He’s going to be the kid that develops more in college than in high school.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="783153" first="Keon" last="Thompson"] - 6’1 PG 2021 - Merrillville (IN)

Keon is a growing guard that has quite a bit of scoring ability. He’s gotten better and could be closer to the top of this list once we can see him live again. Tough and built strong, able to get into the lane and handle pressure pretty well with some decent playmaking ability.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="783152" first="Quimari" last="Peterson"] - 6’0 PG 2021 - Gary West (IN)

Quimari is a solid lead guard who has been at the front of this Gary West team for a couple years and next season will be an interesting one. Have had high hopes for him and he should be in a great position to lead one of the best teams in the state. Can do a little bit of everything but could see a little more scoring ability out of him.

6. [player_tooltip player_id="874114" first="Chrishawn" last="Christmas"] - 6’4 SF 2021 - Gary West (IN)

Chrishawn is a move-back kid after a year away at prep school at Teays Valley (WV). He’s coming off an injury as well. Long, lean wing that can slash and shoot a bit. Really good ball handler for his size and has some upside as his game becomes more refined.

7. [player_tooltip player_id="963120" first="Darrell" last="Reed"] - 6’7 PF 2021 - Hammond (IN)

Reed is a move-in from Illinois last year that seemed to have a really good year for Hammond. New-age stretch forward that relies on athleticism and slashing ability in the open floor to be impactful. Has some skill on the perimeter but best when you can get in the open floor. Helped to add depth to an already deep class at the forward spot.

8. [player_tooltip player_id="868220" first="Ashton" last="Williamson"] - 6’2 SG 2023 - Calumet (IN)

Williamson is an interesting freshman that can really score the ball. You never know how young players are going to play in their first year. A ton of issues can pop up but Ashton has really shown that he can light it up if he has the ball in his hands. Could be at the top of this list in a year.

9. [player_tooltip player_id="843584" first="Ben" last="Jones"] - 6’2 SG 2021 - Andrean (IN)

Ben is a big guard who seemed to come on a bit in the last year. Liked his development as a shooter and scorer. Looks the part but will need to really take a step forward with his offense but he’s made the first jump, just needs one more to take off.

10. [player_tooltip player_id="868227" first="Kamari" last="Slaughter"] - 6’2 SG 2023 - Portage (IN)

Kamari is a big guard and like Williamson, had a pretty good first year. He’s got some stuff on offense he needs to work on but his ball handling and quickness are pretty high level at this point and he’s got a frame that looks pretty advanced. Got a lot to grow on.
