Robert Ford was all ready to show out and help lead Clackamas to the title, especially since it had been moved to the Cougars home court. But like everyone else, the 6-foot Jefferson alumnus saw things screech to a halt and just like that his two-year college career was over.
“I just wish it didn’t win the way it did,” Ford said. “I know my team had a lot still left to show.”
For Ford, it was one more chance to showcase the incredible all-around abilities he’s developed while at Clackamas. As a sophomore, he averaged 23.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 7.8 assists as a triple-double threat every night out on the court. As impressive as his numbers were his freshman season, Ford was set on continuing to enhance his game both on and off the floor.
“For me there is always somewhere I can improve rather it’s leadership or on the court,” Ford said. “I feel like my leadership improved a lot from the first year by my communication and over leadership improving.”
Colleges certainly noticed Ford’s play as he became arguably the top four-year college recruit in the NWAC this season. Offers have continued to roll in for him at the Division I and II levels. At D-I, Idaho State, Montana State, Pacific, and Portland State have offered and at D-II, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Western Oregon, and Western Washington have offers on the table. Ford is still taking it all in but without the ability to make visits – the NCAA has blacked out all on campus recruiting until mid-April – he’s kind of in limbo when it comes to his recruitment.
“Schools are starting to contact me more and things are heating up but I haven’t gave it much thought just been dealing with everything going on,” Ford said. “I have always had a dream to play at a Divison 1 school so that’s a priority but at the moment I’m leaving all my options open and will figure out what’s the best situation for me and my family will be.”
