The senior ended a phenomenal high school basketball career finishing with the second-highest points in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history with 2,933.
After being voted the Sierra Valley Conference Most Valuable Player as a junior, it was only right that Patterson regained that crown to end his senior season. The leadership of Patterson was tested big time as he guided a new group of guys to finish atop of the conference standings.
“As a team, we started off struggling a little but we started to get closer together at the right time and started winning games”, said Patterson.
The Hawks finished second in a rigorous conference with a 7-3 league record. The senior leader stepped up big time. Jalen carried an immense load on both ends of the floor for Liberty Ranch.
“Individually, I feel like I could’ve done better to help win more games but overall I feel like I had a good season”.
Good is an understatement for the shifty guard. Patterson left everything he had on the floor every game. The captain averaged 28.1 points, dished out 6.3 assists, grabbed 6.6 rebounds to go along with 2.3 steals in thirty-three games. Patterson’s ability to score the ball at will is not a question. Jalen demonstrated throughout all of his high school career that he can put the ball in the hole at all three levels, proving that with multiple 40 ball games.
For Jalen, it’s not his ability to score that he feels is his best attribute. “Overall, I’m a playmaker. I’m very passionate when I play and I really like to get my teammates involved”, said Patteson.
The guard makes it tough for the opposing defender to guard him. Jalen fills the stat sheet up every game and during his senior campaign, he notched two triple-doubles and five double-doubles.
WIth his craftiness, it is no surprise that college coaches have definitely shown interest in the 6-foot-1, 165-pound guard. “Fresno State, Eastern Washington, San Francisco State, and USF have all called me and said they were interested”, said Patterson.
“I’m looking to major in business and I just want a coach to give me a chance and let me be me and help the team win games”. Patterson will continue to weigh out his options and take some visits before making a decision.
The explosive guard is already preparing for the next level. Patterson is looking to improve in all aspects of his game to ensure that is ready for the collegiate pace especially pushing himself to become an even more effective defender.
