Earning all-league honor in the Foothill Valley Conference as a junior was not enough for the rising senior. The leadership of the captain paid off both for the team and for Nicandro himself. The 5-foot-10 point guard helped Lincoln surpass the twenty-win column to share the Foothill Valley League title with Ponderosa.
Angelo is a proven winner and has left his legacy as one the best players in Fighting Zebras as Lincoln High School’s all-time leader in wins with 72. Nicandro credits a lot of his success to his teammates and coaches for helping him develop as a person and a student-athlete.
“As a team, although we were very undersized, we played well in that aspect and fought to get twenty wins this season so that was really good”, said Nicandro.
The senior leader of the Fighting Zebras stepped up big time and everyone took notice of that. Angelo was named with the league’s Most Valuable Player award. Nicandro filled the stat sheet averaging 13.1 points, grabbing 2.9 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists to go along with 2.1 steals per game. This guard has been exciting to watch and his a player who plays hard on both ends of the court.
“Individually, I felt like I played well. I did whatever I needed to do both offensively and defensively to help my team get wins. Throughout my time at Lincoln, I learned to be a better leader and do what my team needs of me. Over the years, I just tried to show guys the system of our program to help them succeed”.
Nicandro demonstrated his ability to offensively all year long with his playmaking ability, flashiness, and hustle. A characteristic of this guard that many admire is his capability to pick up the defender full court and make the right decisions consistently.
Hard work always paid off. For Nicandro, the scrappy guard has captured the attention of college coaches. With two offers under his belt, Angelo looks to keep his options open and seek the right fit and opportunity. Recently, Cal State Maritime and Knox College both offered and Cal State Dominguez Hills also showing interest in the standout point guard.
Nicandro is never complacent and always finding a way to improve his game, already grinding and preparing before he reaches the collegiate level. “I’m currently working on getting bigger, stronger and faster to prepare for the collegiate level. I want to be ready for the pace of the game and polish everything about my game”, said Nicandro.
