Jaylin Williams 6’8 2020 forward prospect from Gilroy HS. It was my first look at Williams. He poses good size, and has good movement to his game. He plays inside/out for this team. He’s plays with a little bit of an edge, and should be more disciplined, nevertheless he causes matchup problems with his size and ability to handle the ball on the wings, and in transition. He’s a decent passer from the high post and attacks well from there. He did hit a 3. He finished with 16 pts before fouling out.
Joey Garibay 6’2 guard, St. Francis (Watsonville CA) A smart heads up player who leaked out with 2 seconds left and made the game winning layup at the buzzer. A solid contributor to a team that plays in the smaller divisions. Garibay is a good passer who always has his head up in transition looking to make the long pass, he fills the lanes in transition, and has a soft touch to finish under pressure on the drive. He moves well without the ball in the halfcourt, he’s a good straight line driver with a decent mid-range jumper. He finished with 14 pts, to lead his team to a 2 point win and 1st place in league.
Jacob Gonzales 6’1 2020 shooting guard Leigh. He might be what you call a shooter who understands why he’s in the game. In this game he provided his team with a lift off the bench, and almost single handedly won the close contest. He made six 3’s to finish with 18 pts in a tough loss. His teammate Tyler Shenefiel a 6’4 2020 post player provided good post play with his solid scoring, and aggressive rebounding. He has good footwork to go with a solid turnaround jumper in the post. He contributed 12 pts and 5 rebounds with a couple of nice putbacks for scores.
Yazan Elayyan 5’11 2020 guard Santa Teresa. For the Saints to have any success in the play-offs, they’re going to need solid play from Elayyen. In this game he showed he could be an effective player scoring 13 pts and hitting 3 long 3’s that helped his team hold on to victory and secure a shot at a league title next week.
Fabian Reichstadt 6’7 2021 forward Delmar. Here’s another prospect I’m seeing for the first time. He didn’t disappoint. Delmar has been running over teams in the lower division league because of the play of Reichstadt who finished with 32 points in the game. He showed he can spot up and hit the 3 as well as post up and score inside. He made good decisions handling the ball in transition. He ran the floor that resulted in two dunks. He’s a solid passer from the high post. He has two guards on his team that compliment each other pretty well. Will Merriott a 6’1 2021, and Ryan McArthur 6’3 2021. At first I thought they were similar in what they do on this team, but as the game progressed I found that Meriott is more the point guard and McArthur is the shooting guard in this group. They both pass and move the ball up the court pretty good. McArthur drilled eight 3’s to finish with 29 pts, while Merriott scored 11 points. I will have to see more of this group when the competition is a bit more challenging.
Drew Gumin 5’10 2021 point guard for Gilroy showed good command of running the half-court sets for this team, his patience and solid passing was a key to the game, along with his solid defense and quick hands that led to a steal and lay-up to keep his team close. He hit a 3, and made a nice mid-range jumper from the baseline to finish with 13 points.
Isaiah Gonzalez 6’4 2021 forward 255lbs, for St. Francis (Watsonville) looked more like a offensive guard on the football field. He impressed with his ability to play the whole 2nd half with 4 fouls. He’s an effective rebounder and passer for this team. He’s the one who got the rebound with seconds left, and had the presence of mind to make the long pass to Garibay for the game winning lay-up with seconds left to stun the home crowd. He can hit the elbow jumper.
