Jamarques Lawrence (2022) | Plainfield
Lawrence was the entire offense on Wednesday against Union. Lawrence finished with 39 points and seven rebounds in a 63-56 win in round one. The sophomore hit seven three’s in the victory. He had it going from all over the court. Lawrence knocked down six free throws as well. This was a monstrous performance when his team needed it most.
Griffen Rooney (2020) | Westfield
Rooney has been on a tear down the stretch of the season. He scored 29 points in round one against Scotch Plains. This was his third straight 20 point game. Rooney knocked down 10 free throws for the second straight game. He is a capable shooter but Rooney excels at getting to the rim and creating contact so he can knock down free throws, which he has done 100 times this season.
Eric Baier (2020) | Summit
Summit has lost just two games this season and they were not about to get knocked out in round one of the tournament. Baier had a lot to do with this outcome. He led the way with 29 points and 11 rebounds. He finished with two made three’s in the victory but got it done mostly from the free throw line. Baier was getting to the foul line at a high rate and finished with 13 made free throws.
Liam Kwiatkowski (2022) | Cranford
Kwiatkowski led three Cranford players in double-figures. He scored 20 points on four made three’s and eight free throws. Kwiatkowski turned in a complete game with seven rebounds and four assists as well. He gave the defense headaches all night long as he was on from deep from the opening tip.
Malachi Johnson (2023) | Union
Union has some star power on their team led by Jakin Edmond, but it was Johnson who kept his team in the game. He was the only player in double-figures for Union with 22 points. Johnson kept Union in the game every time Plainfield would begin to pull away. In the end, they could not keep up with Lawrence and Plainfield.
