The Rams exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring 28 points in the final period, and holding the Wolves to exactly half of that figure. Check out the five names who stood out amongst the ranks.
Jarviel Gainey – Eastside 2021: It’s Jarvy’s first year with the Rams and he’s already making his presence felt. The junior wing ended up with 20 points after starting the game hot with two treys. He plays the game with great pace, doesn’t seem to force it when underneath the three-point line. Driving to the lane, he’s as crafty as they come. Gainey finished more than a few tough layups over defenders guarding the rim. He’ll be a major piece the rest of this season.
Ashton Lovette – St. Francis 2022: This sophomore has the makings of a star for St. Francis. The kid is about 6’2”, handles the rock really well, looks for the open man & makes the right pass for the assist. His frame allows him battle inside and absorb contact for and-ones. He can step up and hit the midrange-J, as well. Lovette finished with a team-high 14 points.
K.J. Bradley – Eastside 2020: Last year’s Gainesville Sun Player of the Year lived up to the label on Friday, leading all scorers with 21 points. He did it by doing what he does best: taking defenders off the dribble & penetrating to the hoop, drawing contact to get to the free-throw line, and hitting his treys. By the way, the guy also went 7-of-7 from the line. He’s a guy you want with the ball in his hands.
Miguel Yepez Jr. – St. Francis 2020: This senior wing brought consistent energy to the floor for the Wolves, earning 11 points and showing an extreme amount of hustle. Simply put, Yepez is going to battle on every possession. One play that stood out, is when the Rams had a fast-break layup in the bag, but Yepez chased it down for the swat. Just seconds later, he was the only player willing to dive on the ground for a loose ball. He ended up getting it. Love his passion for the game.
Aziel Gainey – Eastside 2021: The last double-digit scorer of the night, Gainey shot the rock well from the outside scoring 15 points in the last three quarters—including three treys. All of them were from the corner. He seemed as if he was always in the right place, getting quick dump-offs in the paint for easy lays. If he can keep this play up for the Rams, the trio he’s a part of here will be tough to get past.
