The now 6-foot-9 post is not only hoping to have a strong junior season individually but is looking forward to how he and his Jefferson High School teammates respond to every challenge in 2019-20. The Demos have landed in Hawaii and will get in their first game at the Iolani Classic tonight but the season got off to a good start with a big win over Wilson on opening night.
“It was a good first game, just getting back into the groove again,” Robinson said. “We had a couple of mistakes and stuff but that happens with the first game.”
In the game against Wilson, Robinson was the team’s high scorer and rebounder with 17 points and 12 boards. Since trimming down and getting into shape during his sophomore season, the fluid post has kept the weight off and improved his conditioning. He glided up and down the floor with ease, setting up shop underneath but also facing the basket and attacking. There’s no doubt the work he put in this off-season has been paying off.
“I feel like I can just do more stuff,” Robinson said. “I feel like I worked on all of my weaknesses and I’m more of an all-around player.”
College programs continue to track Robinson, who currently holds offers from Montana and Pacific. The junior took his first official visit this fall to Montana but doesn’t have anything else planned at the moment. “It was fun and a good experience,” Robinson said. “I’m just playing right now really and I’m going to worry about (recruiting) later.”
What Robinson is concentrated on are the games ahead. Easy wins like the one against Wilson won’t be coming anytime soon, especially on the Islands where some national powers such as Oak Hill Academy await if the Demos advance.
“I feel like we have enough talent and can make some noise down there,” Robinson said. “It’s great that we get the opportunity to go down to Hawaii and get put on the national scene because I feel like we can be special this year.”
Robinson currently ranks as the #4 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
