Continue ReadingIndividual scoring efforts seem to be up so far this season as a number of players have started out the year averaging over 20 points per game. Out of all of them, the only one who has scored 20 or more points in every single game is none other than Pierce Roeder. The sharp-shooting 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard from Sandy is certainly happy about the fast start not only for himself but for his Pioneers squad as well.
“The team is going great and we’re doing everything we can for Sandy,” Roeder said. “Our team chemistry is a lot better than last year and we’ve got great players, great coaches – they work us hard.”
As noted, Roeder has notched 20 or more points in each of Sandy’s six games thus far, where the Pioneers have gone 4-2. The senior burst onto the scene last year and earned a reputation as a deadeye shooter. That ability to hit from long range is still there, but Roeder – who missed some time in the off-season due to an injured foot – worked on more of his other schools as well.
“I worked on my dribbling and my shooting with my dad and my trainer, Nate Bowie,” Roeder said. “I played with Elite 24 and Mt. Hood Elite and AAU went really well. I couldn’t play for like four months but I’m all healthy and ready to play.”
Roeder is hopeful that his high-scoring exploits will lead to playing opportunities at the college level. He notes that he’s hearing the most from Northwest Christian, Western Oregon, Pacific University, and Warner Pacific and out of those, one school certainly stands out.
“I’m just trying to play but I’m most interested in Northwest Christian University,” Roeder said. “Not only do they care about your playing but they care about your religion and your faith in God.”
Like many others in his situation, Roeder is playing out the season to see what options he has before making any kind of decision. Sandy will compete in the Les Schwab Invitational The Eight event once again this year and then it’s on to the super-competitive Mt. Hood Conference where the Pioneers will once again look to make it to the post-season. “If we play like we can play, I think we can take on anyone,” Roeder said.
Roeder currently ranks as the #59 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
