Caleb Fuller – 2020 – SF – Oshkosh West
Fuller might be a prospect that small school programs should keep an eye on. The 6-foot-3 wing is a dead-eye shooter and just buried Appleton North from beyond the arc all game long en route to 18 points. Every time it looked as if the Lightning were going to take a leader, it felt Fuller was the one silencing the run. Fuller has good size at 6-foot-3, moves without the basketball well, and is a little more athletic than he looks. The senior is quietly averaging 18.8 points per game this season.
Max Nelson – 2022 – F – Appleton North
Having a breakout sophomore season, Nelson came in averaging better than 21 points per game. He finished with 35 in Tuesday’s loss. Nelson came out on fire, hitting four 3-pointers in the first half, including two in the first few possessions. Nelson looked really confident shooting the basketball and hit most of his triples with a hand in the face, but the 6-foot-8 forward just shot right over the top. One of the knocks on Nelson over the summer was his inability to put the ball on the deck and create matchup problems. He definitely looked more comfortable and more athletic on Tuesday. Nelson had a handful of drives where he got to the rim or pulled up off the bounce. He ended the game with a vicious putback slam off a missed 3-pointer.
Jacquez Overstreet – 2020 – SG – Oshkosh West
Overstreet is one of the biggest unsung heroes in the state. The senior guard was a playmaker all night for the Wildcats. Overstreet got off to a fast start, scoring eight quick points and would finish with 11. Overstreet also had a handful of beautiful assists. A smooth, plus-length guard, Overstreet made great decisions with the basketball when he put it on the deck and drew defenders. Overstreet is also one of West’s top defenders and is relied upon to generate stops on the other end.
Jaden Seubert – 2020 – PF – Appleton North
Seubert had 11 points and a handful of rebounds in Tuesday’s loss. The senior forward was a solid tone setter all night for the Lightning. Seubert played strong around the rim and had a couple of 3-point play opportunities. He fought hard on the offensive glass and contributed to many second-chance opportunities. Seubert also protected the rim well, including an imposing shot block in the second half.
Karter Thomas – 2020 – PG – Oshkosh West
Coming off a torn ACL that cost him the entire spring and summer, Thomas probably isn’t all the way back yet, but he’s definitely good enough right now to be one of the top guards in the state still. Despite a little bit of rust in the early going, the senior guard put the game away in the final minutes with a strong surge offensively. Thomas scored a team-high 21 points, including two dagger 3-pointers. Thomas looked like his old self in some ways, using his strong frame to back people down on the block and make opposing guards uncomfortable. When his shot wasn’t there, Thomas made sure to get others involved and set up his teammates for a number of easy buckets. Defensively, Thomas also had a strong impact, getting his hands on the basketball and stripping it out. He also had a key steal and score in the second half that helped ignite the late run.
