Quarterfinal Standouts
Justin Powell (North Oldham)
Another outstanding performance from the senior point guard. He finished the game with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists. He is absolutely everywhere on the court. I have yet to see a flaw in Powell’s game. Everything he does is very smooth and at a high level. The Auburn signee is making himself known and my prediction to be Mr. Kentucky Basketball. #17 North Oldham defeated Fairdale, 78-64. #17 North Oldham advances to the semifinals to face #1 Male Sunday at 7:30pm.
Marcellus Vail (Collins)
The Samford signee was very impressive in Collins’ matchup against Madisonville. Especially down the stretch of the game. Marcellus finished the game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 threes. One of those threes being the biggest one of them all as he hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. If it wasn’t for Vail’s clutch gene, then Collins would not be in the semifinals Sunday. #4 Collins defeated #3 Madisonville in OT, 71-70. #4 Collins advances to the semifinals to face #6 Ballard Sunday at 9pm.
Tyren Moore (Male)
The senior point guard for Male with another great showing in the KOB. He finished with a team-high 22 points. 12 of those 22 points came from behind the arc as he nailed 4 threes. He can stroke it really well from behind the 3-point arc. It doesn’t matter if he is wide open or if there is a hand in his face. He isn’t afraid for the big moments and leading his team to victories. #1 Male defeated #13 McCracken County in OT, 65-56. #1 Male advances to the semifinals to face #17 North Oldham Sunday at 7:30pm.
Jack Edelen (Ballard)
Freshman point guard Jack Edelen has been killing it. In the quarterfinal against Bishop McDevitt (PA), he finished with 17 points. He is averaging 19.0 points in the KOB so far. For a freshman, he is very under control when handling the ball. He isn’t afraid to go 1-on-1 and score for this Ballard team. Not your ordinary freshman by any means. He can score and pass the ball very well. He has room to grow his game and he will be a name we will be hearing a lot for the next few years at Ballard.
