ICYMI – Top Storylines: Sun Bash Miami (Day 1)
Here is a look at the top performances from Saturday: Part 1.
Carlos Hart (North Miami)
Being the alpha, 2020 6’6″ North Miami guard Carlos Hart dropped a tournament best 36 points in an overtime win over Coral Park. He rallied his group from a double digit deficit in the third quarter and was hitting clutch lay-ins. With fellow 2020 guard Vee’lesk Avin out, Hart was forced into an ever larger role and he was on point in this one. He is a superb ballhandler, who can shoot drive and plays with a high motor.
Ga’Khari LaCount (Coral Park)
Going toe to toe with Hart and North Miami, 2020 6’1″ guard Ga’Khari LaCount (Lynn commit) scored 29 points and was everything and more for his side. One tough kid who doesn’t complain, plays hard and helps his teammates, he is going to be very solid at the next level. LaCount is someone every high school team would love to have as a leader with his jumper, transition play and leadership skills.
De’Ante Perez & Marvel Allen (Wellington)
The guard play for Wellington was something else. Trailing in the second quarter to a highly athletic Miami High team, 2020 6’3″ guard De’Ante Perez and 2023 6’4″ guard Marvel Allen were in full control and never flinched. Perez ended with 25 points and was all over the court, connecting from deep, flying inside for finishes and providing a ton of energy. Allen fed off him and did his part, using his foot speed and long arms to get to the bucket often. The Wolverines are super deep and play very in sync.
Devin Carter & Justin Johnson (Doral)
Combining for 42 points, 2020 6’4″ guard Devin Carter (22 points) and 2023 6’7″ forward Jordan Johnson (20 points) were crucial in Doral’s victory over a shorthanded Coral Springs Charter team. Carter did his usual, getting in the paint and finishing with reverse lay-ins and tough ones as well. Oh, and he also racked up 16 rebounds. Carter is a high-major prospect. Johnson is filled with a ton of talent with his mid-range shot and overall length which helped him get to the rack. His older brother, 2021 6’6″ forward Kameron Johnson mixed in with 12 points of his own.
Joel Aloma-Fernandez (Palmetto)
A key shooting piece for Palmetto, 2021 6’3″ guard Joel Aloma-Fernandez found his groove against Suncoast in the 6 PM tilt. He scored 22 points and was hitting from outside often. His ballhandling and ability to shift to find openings helps his offense tremendously.
Sam Rolle (Suncoast)
2020 5’10” guard Sam Rolle wasn’t hitting from deep at a high clip, but he was relentless as an attacker and made life tough for Palmetto defenders. In the loss, Rolle had a game best 20 points and was at his best when he put his head down and went to the rim. He is a very crafty point man who is going to continue to thrive.
Frankie Idlett (Westminster Christian)
No one was more clutch than 2021 6’1″ guard Frankie Idlett in the final game of the event. Idlett added nine of his team-best 18 points in the fourth quarter as the host Warriors fought the whole night and pulled away right at the end. He was attacking often and hit six free throws to help the cause. Idlett is a finesse point guard with tons of speed and IQ.
