One. Minnehaha Academy. You know how people win stuff and say “nobody thought we could do this” even though it’s Bill Belichick or Kevin Durant, and we all thought they could win and they were the favorite to win but they say it anyway? Or when kids say “you sleep” or “they sleep”? Well, if anybody wins Class AAA other than the Redhawks you can say this all you want because everybody thinks Minnehaha Academy is bringing home gold.
2. DeLaSalle
3. Mankato East
4. Austin
5. Marshall
Six. Totino-Grace. The Eagles are playing with house money this year. They have a lot of talented juniors, sophomores, and freshmen that will make for a very good basketball team but they are in the Minnehaha Academy section so most don’t expect a state run. Yet. In the future the Eagles should be in the mix of everything.
7. Waconia
8. Mound-Westonka
9. Delano
10. St. Cloud Apollo
Eleven. Holy Angels. My expectations are that AHA will be good but I’m not ready to say top ten yet until we see what else they have. Matt Banovetz and Emmett Johnson should lead the Stars to a very good season, the question is how deep will they be?
12. St Peter
13. Hibbing
14. St. Croix Lutheran
15. Benilde-St Margaret’s
Sixteen. Columbia Heights. The Hylanders are going to be a very dangerous team. I love the sophomore group of Muja Burton and Spencer Alvarez plus Jordan Jones and Elijah Williams return as solid players for this program.
17. Hermantown
18. Minneapolis Patrick Henry
19. Alexandria
20. Bemidji
Twenty-One. Grand Rapids. With John Sutherland on the inside as the top returning scorer in Class AAA basketball there will be steps taken by GR to improve from last season. The Thunderhawks will need some backcourt players to step up and take some of the scoring pressure off John.
22. Monticello
23. Sartell-St. Stephen
24. Mankato West
25. Saint Anthony.
