With his full focus on hoops after golf season ended, the all-around 6-foot-3, 180-pound swingman laced up his sneakers with Jordan Team Fly, hit the AAU circuit and a number of other basketball camps to get to work. He picked up some college offers in the process and he couldn’t be happier about the way things turned out.
“We got to play with some really good guys and played against some really good teams,” Inglesby said. “It was a good experience playing against some top competition and get myself in front of some more coaches. It was good playing against some good guys and get better – that’s the main goal.”
On an individual basis, Inglesby had some goals and felt those were met as well. “I definitely focused on getting in the weight room and I’ve added five-to-ten pounds, mostly muscle,” Inglesby said. “That will help in all areas of my game. I also worked on more control with the ball, whether that’s driving to the hoop and finding a teammate or just dribbling the ball on the fast break. Just knowing what I’m doing, staying competitive, and trusting my skills.”
Talk to college coaches and they will tell you that they are intrigued by Inglesby’s upside. He has good athleticism and all-around skills on the wing and as he continues to mature physically and with his skills, he could be a key contributor on a good basketball team. The question has been: at what level will he best fit in at?
Corban, Warner Pacific, and George Fox have all already put forth offers on the table but others are interested. Inglesby camped this summer at Seattle University and Northwest Nazarene and both remain in contact. Portland assistant coaches Tyler Geving and Ben Johnson recently hit a Barlow open gym to watch him play. Inglesby noted that Barlow head coach Tom Johnson has been in touch with Oregon State about possible walk-on opportunities – something Inglesby’s father Trent did in the 1990’s.
“I’m just trying to look at the options and get that somewhat figured out in the next few months,” Inglesby said. “I’m weighing everything equally – I don’t count anything out until I go and see it. I went and visited Corban, and on paper it looks super small and I didn’t know if I was going to like it but I went there and there were a lot of kids around there.”
“It was kind of cool, it was much better than the pictures online,” he said. “So I definitely want to look around before I make a decision.”
While Inglesby is definitely taking his time with his recruitment, there’s no question he would like to figure things out as Barlow hopefully makes a long post-season run. “I’m hoping to know where I’m going by the end of league or playoffs, so I can get that out of my head and focus on winning a state championship,” Inglesby said. “We’ll be good. We’ve got a tight knit group of guys – a lot of seniors and we’ve all played together since middle school.”
“We won state championships in middle school so now it’s all about getting in the gym together and going out there and doing our thing,” he continued. “We know we can hang with anybody, we’ve just got to go and show it.”
Inglesby currently ranks the #10 player in the updated PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
