The strong 6-foot, 170-pound lead guard from Benson High School knows that a lot of things were honestly out of his control and he didn’t really get a great chance to make an impression on college coaches this summer. But Crawford remains hopeful and does look at the positives from his off-season as he looks forward to this upcoming year.
“I’m just trying to get better every day and I feel like my game has evolved,” Crawford said. “I used to be all-attacking so I’m trying to be more of a point guard now. I’ve evolved my jump shot now and everything is going good.”
After an all-league junior season, the hard-working senior was hopeful that the off-season would help bring on some college interest, maybe even some offers. “It was a good summer but not the most productive,” Crawford said. “I started out playing with Maeko and then in June it kind of disbanded for 17U so I started playing with Active PCH. In July we took a trip down to Atlanta and it was a good tournament, there were a lot of coaches down there.”
Crawford notes that he’s largely been hearing from NWAC schools Clark and Lane, and other schools such as Seattle, Concordia, Northwest Nazarene and Lewis & Clark all have him on his radar. He was hoping to have more at this point in time but he’s staying positive. “Like I said it wasn’t the most productive spring and summer,” Crawford said. “It’s not as much as I’d like to be hearing from, but it will heat up this season.”
The positivity extends to this upcoming year. “We’re young – we lost about seven seniors from last year and I’m the only returning varsity senior,” Crawford said. “It’s going to test my leadership and my patience but I’m excited. We’re going to get after it and have a great season.”
Crawford currently ranks #22 in the updated PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
