Continue ReadingThe Pango’s All-East Frosh/Soph camp was a great opportunity for players to raise their stocks. It was an event that allowed the area’s best sophomores and freshmen to face-off against one another. There were many players that raised their stocks over the weekend, but these five players benefited the most from the weekend.
Dionte Johnson, PG Patrick School
No other player raised its stock more than Johnson. The sophomore point guard was unguardable off the bounce as he repeatedly got to the basket. Johnson showed great body control and was able to finish around the rim, despite being only 6’0.
He rarely played out of control and was a pest on the defensive end. His performance over two days was good enough to put him in the Cream of the Crop Top 30 game, where he made a couple of tough lay-ups through traffic. The Patrick School freshman had a terrific showing at Pango’s All-East Frosh/Soph and should have the attention of coaches throughout the season.
Elijah Jones, PF Pleasantville
Jones will graduate from Pleasantville in 2021, but was eligible for the camp because he will do a post-grad year. He was a force on the offensive glass and showed a soft touch around the basket. Jones led the break at times during the games and has a good feel for the game.
The 6’8 forward has a good looking shooting form and was adept at drawing fouls. His showing over the weekend was good enough for him to make the Cream of the Crop Top 30 game where he grabbed rebounds and ran hard in transition. Pleasantville lost a ton of talent from last year’s squad and Jones looks ready to shoulder the offensive load.
Elmarko Jackson, PG St. Augustine
He hurt his ankle during the second game, but that was not enough to drop his stock. Jackson always played under control and did not get rattled under pressure. He was able to get to his spot on the court and shoot over his defenders.
Jackson is not just a shooter as he can explode off the floor and finish around the rim. His play landed him in the Cream of the Crop Top 30 game where he showed the ability to be a good starting point guard. Jackson is a talented lacrosse player, but intends to play basketball in college. The two-sport star is slated to run point for the Hermits this season and should have a big season if he continues to play like he did at Pango’s All-East.
Lual Manyang, PF Blair Academy
The 6’10 forward was one of the most impressive big men at the camp. He displayed his tremendous length on the defensive end as he blocked several shots and influenced many more. Manyang ran the floor hard and carved out good post position on the block.
He showed off a solid touch around the basket and flashed some good post moves. Manyang even showed off a bit of a perimeter game in warm-ups as he knocked down several three-pointers. He played well in the Cream of the Crop Top 30 and Manyang’s stock is only going to raise.
Misha Vedishchev, PG Patrick School
He might not have played in either the Top 30 game or Top 60 game, but Vedishchev had a tremendous showing over the weekend. The 6’0 point guard was one of the top shooters at the event as he knocked down the majority of his open looks. Vedishchev is not just a shooter as he has good handles and court vision.
He beat his defenders off the bounce and finished tough shots in the lane. Vedishchev was robbed of playing in either of the All-Star games, but that does not diminish his play over the weekend. He is one of the top freshmen in New Jersey and Vedishchev should contribute for a talented Patrick School team.
