Podziemski was at the helm all year, and now during his junior season, he looks to capitalize with scouts begging for an encore.
Preseason First-Team:
Brandin Podziemski, G – Saint John’s NW Military Academy: Though he blew up this summer, I’d also like to make it clear that the dominance wasn’t new to him. As a sophomore, Podziemski led SJNMA in scoring with 22.5 points per game. As we’ve come to expect, he was fiery from beyond the arc and underrated on the glass, hauling in 9.3 rebounds per game (also pacing the roster).
Gerald Gittens Jr., G – Saint John’s NW Military Academy: Alongside Podziemski this summer and during this school season, Gittens proved to be an ideal, college-caliber floor general. He’s stocky and hard-nosed inside and thrives when attacking the hoop. Though he stands at 5-foot-11, he gathered 6.5 rebounds along with 15.8 points per game last season, a credit to his terrier-like tenacity on the floor.
Logan Landers, F – Brookfield Academy: The 6-foot-7, all-around forward has scouts salivating at his potential and versatility. He put up 14.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game last year and led Brookfield Academy to prominence in division three. As the 15th best prospect in the Prep Hoops 2021 ranking, he has a footprint in the recruiting world, and it’s likely that he makes a stronger impression this upcoming season.
Aiden Clarey, G – Brookfield Academy: Clarey has hovered consistently around the 20 points per game mark since his freshman season. There’s no reason to hop off the train now, as the three-time conference first-team guard will likely assert himself into the ballot once again. He’s thrived from beyond the arc his whole career, making four trey games a habit. Alongside Landers, look for Brookfield Academy to find extensive team success with a sleek guard-forward duo.
Luke Haertle, G, Lake Country Lutheran: Haertle’s burgeoning status is a byproduct of extensive coverage of his grassroots team, Wisconsin Playground. This summer, his repeated delivery in the clutch (twice this summer he nailed a game-winning buzzer-beater) earned him a spot an All-American PH Circuit First-Team. Offensively he’s well-rounded and absurdly efficient. Throughout his 16.8 points per game last season (as a freshman, mind you), he shot at a 75.9 percent clip from the field, 70.9 percent from the stripe, and 69.4 percent from deep.
