Friday night’s Central Cali Showcase was no exception. Taking place in Bakersfield, the Pangos brand brought together some of the best talent in Central California. PH takes a look at some of the standouts from the C/O 2021 showcase game.
MVP: Ipreye Egbe 6’2 SG Garces Memorial 2021 – Ipreye was in attack mode from the tip. The 6’2 guard slashed his way to a game high 22 points. He has a good first step and showed the ability to knock down 3’s when the D laid off. Was at his best when playing downhill in transition and was the best player I saw finishing through contact.
Best Prospect: AJ George 6’6 SF 2021 – George certainly looks the part. He is a long tall versatile wing. The lefty showed fabulous play making ability. He was consistently able to create a shot for himself or his teammates. He only attempted 6 3’s last season, however he showed nice form, knocking down a couple in the game. His size and versatility guarantee that he’s a scholarship athlete, the level will be determined by if he can be consistent with that 3.
1st Team
Gabriel Iruh 6’1 SG Shafter 2021 – Iruh is a running back playing basketball. He physically dominated any match-up he had. He’s a fast twitch athlete with good explosion. He used his size and speed to consistently get to the rim. More of a scorer than a shooter, but he did show the ability to separate and knock down mid – range jumpers. Did a great job of translating his athleticism to the defensive end.
Kam Manning – Fuimaono 5’10 SG Monterey Trail 2023 – Fuimaono fearlessly attacked the older players all game. The rising freshman showed good poise and an ability to knock down contested shots. Crafty ball-handler, that likes to use hesitation dribbles to freeze defenders.
Elijah Willis 5’9 PG North 2021 – Willis is a shifty PG with a good handle. His strength is his shooting. He’s a long ball specialist that naturally spaces the floor. His shooting ability allows him to play the 2, however, because of his handle and passing ability he is more than capable of being effective at the 1.
A.J Johnson 5’11 PG San Joaquin Memorial 2023– Johnson was another freshmen that played well in this game. He’s quick, shifty and has a tight handle. Interested to see how his layup package develops. Currently has some reverses, and off – hand finishes that allowed him to get it up on the glass against bigger players.
Darien Lopez 5’10 SG Ceasar Chavez 2021 – Lopez was one of the more efficient players on the night. I like guys like this, he played with a nice confidence, and was aggressive every time he got an opportunity. Scrappy player, who shoots it well, and has a solid handle.
