Raleigh’s Finest squeezes out a tight victory
Raleigh’s Finest kicked things off on Thursday against the Raleigh Raiders and things got interesting down the stretch. Raleigh’s Finest led by 10 with roughly a minute left in the game but the Raiders were relentless on defense. They kept coming, bringing things within two points with 25.2 seconds left in the game.
Ultimately, the game came down to the final possession as the Raiders trailed 61-58 with the ball but Raleigh’s Finest didn’t give up the lead thanks to the efforts of 2022 forward Asa White and guard Silas Demary Jr.. White finished the game with 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Demary finished with 11 points and five assists, making a number of free throws down the stretch to hold onto the lead. They’ll face the Eagles on Tuesday in the championship.
Teen Center (A) does away with the 7th Nation Warriors
Teen Center had a squad full of guards but they were relentless against the 7th Nation Warriors. Teen Center overcame 38 points from Brandon Johnson (2020) to get a 77-70 victory.
It was also difficult for the Warriors to contain 2020 guard David Murphy and company. Murphy finished with 25 points, scoring in a variety of ways including a number of big dunks. Behind Murphy, there was 2020 guard Keyon McKoy, who used his quickness and underrated bounce to put up 23 points.
Tashaud Alexander (2020) was another quick guard who used his elusive first step to get to the rim and finish strong. He had a number of And-1 finishes and 3-pointers that powered his team to victory. Alexander finished with 15 points. Teen Center will face St. Christopher in the Championship on Tuesday.
St. Christopher defeats Team Whitaker in 4 vs. 4 action
Only four players showed up for St. Christopher and Team Whitaker in the final game of the night. St. Christopher ended up pulling out a 57-45 win.
Things were close in the beginning but St. Christopher found their rhythm thanks to 2021 wing B.J. Freeman. Freeman put up 24 points with two 3-pointers, showing off his ability to get to the rim with ease.
2023T.J. Ragland was another standout for St. Christopher as he finished with 12 points, getting to the rim and finishing tough on numerous occasions. For Team Whitaker, Bluefield commit Terrance Bolden showed off his development in the post with 14 points. Vance Granville CC commit Quincy Burreal led the way for the squad with 15 points. Catch St. Christopher in the championship on Tuesday.
