It was a good fit for the shifty 5-foot-9, 130-pound point guard from Catlin Gabel High School as he not only got to play high-level club basketball but also got the opportunity to visit quite a few high-academic college programs. An injury hampered him a bit but Sheng is staying positive as he now heads into his senior season.
“I fractured my finger in May but played through the injury wearing a splint with Seattle Select and attended a few Elite College Camps,” Sheng said. “When I finally was cleared to play with out a splint, on the first day in the first game of the WCE (High Academic) Super Bowl Camp in Anaheim I re-fractured it. I went ahead and played through that camp and that weekend in the Seattle viewing tournament up there but decided it was best to take a few weeks off and just get healed up.”
During his time off, Sheng got to spend some quality time traveling and hanging out with friends. His reputation as a point guard who makes good decisions has been intact and from a recruiting standpoint, Sheng feels that things have been going great and that several Division III programs and a few Division II colleges have been staying on contact.
Recruiting will sort itself out for Sheng though as he’s now honed in on finishing out his final year of high school basketball with a bang.
“I’m really focusing on getting 100% healthy, hitting the weights, and making the best of my senior season at (Catlin Gabel),” Sheng said. “I’m really excited about our new coach at Catlin Gabel, Tim Whittle and learning from him. I don’t think it’s very often that a HS program gets a Coach with head college coaching experience. I really want to enjoy my last year of high school with my classmates and I’ll just continue having faith that the college stuff will work itself out when it’s the right time & not stress over it.”
Sheng currently ranks as the #33 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
