The quick 5-foot-9, 150-pound point guard from Churchill High School has played up with the top 17U squad in the program, which has given the rising sophomore the opportunity to showcase his game all across the country, giving him the opportunity to play against big-time talent and building experience for the future.
“We’ve gotten to travel a lot and been able to see some of the best competition,” Morgan said. “It’s been good for me and my game. At the beginning it was a bit of a slow start as they were a lot bigger bodies, but I’ve been able to get back to playing like myself. My passing and getting my teammates involved has gone well, and I’ve been able to score whenever I want to.”
Morgan is probably one of the quickest point guards in the state in any class. He gets to the basket like a bullet, utilizing a quick first step and dribble and having played against bigger players his entire life, knows how to adjust and finish near the basket. Morgan has seen a number of older brothers move on from high school to the college level, and he’s hopeful that he can follow in their footsteps.
“I just want to go as big as I can,” Morgan said. “Everybody wants to go D-I, but I want to do what’s best for me. I’ve just got to keep on working.”
Only a sophomore, Morgan did get some significant playing time as a freshman in 2019-20 and with the experience he’s obtained over this off-season, he’s set on playing a bigger role for a Churchill team that will have plenty of expectations on it.
“We have all the same players coming back from last year, so I think we’ve got a pretty good chance at winning state this year,” Morgna said. “We’ve just got to get together as a team and figure it out. Last year I came off the bench and this year I’m probably going to start. So I just need to work on my game all-around.”
