Nightrydas Move to 2-0 on Scottie Barnes Game Winner
It was a battle of top 5 rising seniors and had 5-stars all over the floor as we kicked off the morning with Team WhyNot and Nightrydas. It was a back and forth game all the way. With WhyNot up one and just seconds left super stud Scottie Barnes scored an and-1 to win the game. Barnes is the ultimate utility guy that can do a little bit of everything. Positional size, skill, and versatility are his calling cards. His long arms and body control around the rim allow him to finish around defenders. Finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 dimes. Isaiah Todd came to play on Thursday morning. The elite 5-star post was aggressive from the jump crashing the glass for put backs and swatting shots defensively. He threw down a couple monster dunks en route to 20 points and 13 boards. Dudley Blackwell is a power wing for the Florida squad that brings a lot of toughness. Power wing that makes plays slashing. Kameron Woods is a smaller lead guard that is a capable shot maker from three. Scored 13 points in the win. For WhyNot their star Jalen Green didn’t have his best performance shooting it. Struggled with the jumper, but did show his elite athleticism on a few drives. Chicago native Nimari Burnett is a silky smooth combo who works well around ball screens. Pushes in transition having his head up to make a play. Silky smooth scorer had 17 points. One of my favorite 2021 point guards is Devin Askew. The high IQ point guard is a true floor general that sees the game one play ahead. He is a plus shot maker pulling up consistently from three drilling shots. Also makes plays in the lane off ball screens on runners and scoop shots. He had 20 points, 7 dimes, and 7 rebounds.
Indy Heat Gets Massive Win Over Rival
As we mentioned above in our Illinois section Indy Heat won 115-65 over Mac Irvin Fire to kick off their day. It was a completely dominant performance for the Indiana squad. Combo guard Nijel Pack was phenomenal going 5-6 from three and 10-13 overall for 25 points. Such a smooth jump shooter especially when he is in rhythm. Was equally as effective pulling up or off the catch. Dre Davis proved to be a big time scorer as well on the wing. Did a nice job of attacking downhill and getting to the line at a high rate on his way to 27 points. Purdue commit Jaden Ivey quietly posted a 16 point outing. Really like the upside long term of 2021 small forward Luke Goode. Lengthy wing that can really shoot it and defends multiple spots. He scored 12 points drilling three from deep.
Team Takeover Scores Win Over Meanstreets
TTO is a team to always watch at Peach Jam. They are well coached and the DMV always produces high level talent. Seven footer Hunter Dickinson is one of my favorite players in the class. He is a true back to the basket old school center. The skilled lefty garners deep post position off the catch. When he does that it is pretty much over. Soft touch around the hoop being able to finish with either hand. Excellent passer for a big man! Sees the floor so well out of the post and working at the top of the key. Rim protector that swats shots at a high rate. He had 12 points, 6 assists, and 7 rebounds. The leading scorer for Takeover in their win over Meanstreets was Terrance Williams. The thick bodied combo forward seals in the high/low game. Understands body positioning and how to use his strength down low. Went for 21 points. . Class of 2021 center Efton Reid has a very bright future. Great size and strength at 7’0”. Rim protector and cleans the glass. Finished with 7 points on 5-5 from the charity stripe.
1-2 5-Star Punch Does Job for Vegas Elite
Vegas Elite captured a close victory over the Mac Irvin Fire. Their five-star duo of Jaden Hardy and Josh Christopher were magnificent in the win. Christopher is such a productive 2020 shooting guard that has an advanced skill set and the ability to get his jumper off with ease. Also can put his head down and get to the rack. Caught an alley-oop and dished to shooters. At times can force some shots. He had 17 points (6-15 FG). Hardy is a 2021 point guard who ranks among the top 10 prospects nationally. He is a volume scoring point guard that when he gets hot is scorching from three. Did that for a stretch, but struggled at other times. Hardy scored 23 points (5-14 3PT). A couple other complimentary players on this team we like are point guard Noah Taitz and wing Mwani Wilkinson. Taitz is a good sized combo guard that has range on his shot. Wilkins is an athletic two guard that had a nose for the ball and was a defensive presence. Taitz had 12 points while Wilkinson netted 15 points.
AOT Survives Scare from Meanstreets to Win in OT
It was a close one, but when AOT needed a bucket the most they went to their star point guard Sharife Cooper who was fouled and made two clutch free throws to send their pool play game against Meanstreets to OT. They would take it from there capturing the win 95-87. The breakout player of the night was Devan Cambridge. This small forward is a highlight reel athlete who played above the rim all night. Whether it was throwing down huge dunks or swatting shots he was impressive. Also displayed a capable mid-range game. Went for 22 points (11-14 FG). Brandon Boston is a rangy small forward with a ton of upside. It wasn’t a spectacular performance by any means. He didn’t even hit one of his patented three pointers, but he was so efficient. Scored 19 points on 5-8 from the field and 9-12 at the foul line. Rangy wing with unlimited potential. 2020 point guard Sharife Cooper struggled shooting it from the field at 4-20 and 0-8 from three, but he made the key plays when they needed him. Whether that was free throws (12-12 FT) or making the right decision as a passer. High IQ floor general that has a great feel for the game. He ended up with 20 points and 12 assists.
