After years of playing club ball with another organization, the athletic 6-foot-3 shooting guard decided to make a switch this spring and run on the EYBL with Seattle Rotary. And then there’s a second move – Garrett will transfer and play his senior season at Jefferson High School next year. He’s been playing with the Demos this month and he’s excited about what the future holds for himself the rest of the summer and beyond.
“It’s been really fun – we’ve got a lot of talent on the team this year,” Garrett said. “I think we’ve got a good chance, we’ve just got to come together. We’ve got a bunch of young guys so we’re learning to gel together and we’ll be alright. I think I’ve blended in pretty well because I’m used to playing with talent. I’ve been playing with (Seattle) Rotary and a lot of talented guys and we’re learning to play well with each other.”
With the Demos, Garrett has fit right in. While he was more of a main guy at West Linn, he’ll be just another weapon for a team that could be the deepest in the state next fall. This all comes off a spring where he joined Seattle Rotary on the EYBL circuit – one where at times playing time has been sporadic but he’s taken a lot of positives from the experience thus far.
“We won a lot of games and made it to Peach Jam and I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be good,” Garrett said. “My shot has improved a lot – my three-point shot and my driving has gotten a lot better. I’ve been playing against a lot of taller and stronger guys so I’ll be a lot better.”
On the recruiting front, Garrett notes that he continues to talk with schools such as Washington State, Pepperdine, Colorado State, and Portland State. He’s hopeful that many of them will take the next step when it comes to his recruitment. “Coaches have been contacting me but I’m just waiting for the offers to come,” Garrett said. “Hopefully when Peach Jam comes, those will come after that.”
How does Garrett feel about the rest of this off-season? “It will be tough but winning Peach Jam – that’s my goal,” Garrett said. “And this summer, practice a lot more with Jeff and get better. We’ve got a lot of talented guys and I think we are going to have a big year.”
Garrett currently ranks as the #1 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2020 rankings.
