Top Dawg: Jonathan Aku (pictured above) remains the best center in the class. He is a bruising force inside who continues to make strides with his back to the basket game. The four-star center attended the NBA Top 100 Camp two weeks ago and impressed scouts with his effort on the glass, which led to numerous second-chance scores offensively. Aku cut his list down to ten schools last week and will most likely make his decision in the fall.
Coming on Strong: Montreal Pena has emerged as a top 150 prospect in the country. The three-star big is frail and lengthy with supreme bounce. He has a chance to be a hybrid five-man who can protect the rim and defend in space. What he can become depends on his mindset and how motivated he is to get better. Pena will have a chance to make another leap into four-star status if he continues to show progression and plays to his strengths as a uber-athletic rim-running big.
Biggest Sleeper: Deauntre Davis is another big man whose biggest question mark is his consistent effort. His move into the top eighty was based upon his girth and ability to elevate for putbacks and dunks inside. Watching Davis, you see flashes of a truly impactful undersized five who can make up for his height with athleticism. But the Chilton native’s motor must be his calling card for coaches to take a chance on him.
