The athletic 6-foot-2, 175-pound sophomore is a quarterback on the gridiron and a guard on the court and he’s got a busy summer off-season playing both. There seems to be narrative that he may end up in one particular sport at the college level but Carter dispels that notion as he’s totally open to anything at this point.
“I’m just trying to work hard in both sports,” Carter said. “It’s full steam ahead in both.”
From a hoops perspective, Carter has been busy so far this spring playing with Jordan Team Fly – Williams. The team has already captured one tournament title – the Portland Classic – and recently got played the April live evaluation period in Southern California.
“It’s been great and I love the guys,” Carter said. “I think I did good and the team kept finding me for open shots and I hit a lot of threes. We pushed the ball well and I got a lot of rebounds.”
While Carter was in town, he took advantage of the locale and made an unofficial visit to USC. “It’s a beautiful campus and I met with both the football and basketball coaches,” Carter said. “The (basketball) coach said he would be watching me. It was good.”
USC is just one of many schools looking at Carter at the moment, and that’s for football as well as basketball. But it’s hoops where things have taken an upturn as on Thursday he received a call from Portland State Barret Peery who offered him a scholarship – Carter’s first scholarship offer in either sport.
“I love it – it’s a blessing,” Carter said. “I love Coach Peery and love the school. It’s definitely really exciting and I’m really thankful that they are giving me the opportunity to play at the next level.”
Carter remains open in his recruitment – in both sports – as he moves forward with the rest of the summer. He currently ranks as the #9 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
