I took in the day with a good amount of games between the three courts as age groups 14U-17U were participating.
Here is a look at the second part of the top performer’s list.
ICYMI: Part 1
Maleek Huggins (Southeast/Team Speights)
In the 16U group, there really wasn’t a better tempo guy then Maleek Huggins. The 5’10” Southeast guard controlled the floor for Team Speights in both games against Raptors Elite and Q6 All Stars. His ability to see a pass ahead and be a quick-twitch mover and shooter makes him a true threat. Huggins added 18 points in an evening loss to Q6 and I came away highly intrigued by his upside.
Warren McLymont &Tyriq James (Hillsborough/Skills Center Elite)
Skills Center Elite sent out a 17U team that consisted of mainly 2019 prospects from Hillsborough. A pair of Hillsborough starters from this past season, 2019 6’4″ forward Warren McClymont and 2020 6’2″ forward Tyriq James combined for 21 points in a meeting with Heart N’ Hustle. McClymont is a fierce rebounder and a good athlete. James is an intriguing prospect who will be in for an alpha role next fall on a new look varsity group.
Nick Rodriguez (Legacy Charter/Heart N’ Hustle)
If you want a poised and fast ballhandler, then look no further then 2022 5’10” guard Nick Rodriguez. Currently, at Legacy Charter, the freshman is tough to slow down defensively and has an array of inside slashing moves that confuse teams. Rodriguez holds his own as a shooter and really pushes the floor in transition.
Ray Perry (St. Petersburg/Team Speights)
Much like his teammate Huggins, 2021 5’10” St. Petersburg guard Ray Perry is an intelligent prospect who never stops pushing it down the floor. Perry flashed against Q6 All Stars with his attacks at the rim, but most impressively he hit outside jumpers with ease. for Team Speights He is in for a big role this upcoming season on a younger St. Pete group that always contends.
Rodney Bryant (Mount Dora Christian/Raptors Elite)
One of the best pure shooters in the gym on Saturday was Rodney Bryant for Raptors Elite. The 2021 6’0″ Mount Dora Christian guard showed off his 3-point stroke in a win over Heart N’ Hustle. He has really good form and arch and seems very confident shooting from the corners. Bryant is an intelligent player who can create for himself. He could stand to add muscle to his frame to help his strength on takes to the rim.
