The all-around 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard emerged into a bigger role this season at Sprague High School, and although he was able to step into some big shoes, he’s still aiming for more as he now goes on the AAU circuit for one more spring and summer season.
“Overall for me I think I did alright,” Lomax said of his junior year. “I could have done better as a leader, scoring-wise and more to help my team, but as a team we did alright. We lost in the first round of the playoffs and got smacked by an older team, but next year we should be a lot better.”
This spring and summer, Lomax is running with Hoop Salem’s top 17U squad, which is coached by his father, former Willamette assistant coach Nelson Lomax. The younger Lomax has done well so far as Hoop Salem has participated in three tournaments. Playing both on and off the ball, he’s shown the ability to let the game come to him, attacking on offense when giving the opportunity but also trying to get his teammates involved when he’s playing the point.
Lomax has been getting some early interest from the likes of Pepperdine and Seattle University but is hopeful a big tournament in a couple of weekends down in Southern California will amp things up with his college recruitment. “I just want to come out and play hard every possession and give it my all,” Lomax said. “Hopefully I can pick up some offers and have something to pick out of when I go into (high school) season and hopefully sign somewhere.”
Lomax currently ranks as the #8 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
