Fly placed four players in double figures with Braeden Sato and Peyton Richardson scoring 15 points each. Trevon Richmond led Deep III with a game-high 22 points.
Here are the most intriguing prospects we watched this weekend:
Drew Carter (2020 Tigard/Jordan Fly Select Williams) – Carter mostly shot a lot of jumper at Tigard this past season but his shot wasn’t quite falling as often over the weekend. Instead, he generated his own offense off drives to the basket where he was able to finish with his athleticism. Carter was very effective in transition as well.
Braeden Sato (2020 Sunset/Jordan Fly Select Williams) – Sato shot it really well from long range, especially in the final when he knocked down five threes. A shifty ball-handler, the 5-foot-9 point guard is liable to pull up from NBA range at any time, but has the ability to drive and kick out to open shooters. Sato seemed to form a rapport with Carter as he found Carter on a few alley-oops on the weekend.
Payton Richardson (2020 Western Christian/Jordan Fly Select Williams) – Richardson was extremely active on both ends of the floor, utilizing his athleticism to battle on the boards and finish around and at the rim, especially in transition. The 6-foot-3 athlete is still working on his perimeter shooting but did knock down a couple of open threes during the weekend.
Koby Williamson (2020 Santiam Christian/Jordan Fly Select Williams) – Williamson started off the spring playing with California Select but may just run with Fly the rest of the AAU season. The 6-foot-9 forward didn’t get a ton of touches on offense, but he was rock solid on the boards on both ends. Offensively, Williamson has a nice touch from the perimeter and has potential as a stretch four.
Trevon Richmond (2019 Jefferson/Deep III) – Richmond was a big add to the Deep III roster as he’s a player with big-time game experience having played at Jefferson this past season. The 6-foot guard ran the point effectively, and was able to score at all three levels over the weekend. He was very good at getting to the basket but also showed a consistent pull-up jumper from 15-18 feet. Richmond is currently hearing from a couple of Division II programs and we’ll have an update posted on him soon.
Anthony Mosley (2019 De La Salle North/Deep III) – Mosley had a solid tournament, using his solid frame to create off the dribble and hit a number of mid-range jumpers. At 5-foot-10, he’ll need to be more of a point guard at the next level.
Gabe Reichle (2020 Wilsonville/Hoop Salem 17U) – After spending last weekend with ML20 and not seeing a ton of court time, Reichle joined Hoop Salem 17U and within two minutes of his first action in his first game, he scored a bucket in transition. There’s no question Reichle will get more playing time
Joey Rodrick (2019 Cleveland/Hoop Salem Seniors) – For the second week in a row, Rodrick was impressive playing with the Hoop Salem unsigned seniors group. He effectively attacked the basket, sometimes finishing with a flush, and was a tough matchup on the perimeter. The general consensus from college coaches is that Rodrick will be very good in two years once his physical body has matured.
Nate Meithof (2020 McNary/All-Around Players 16U) – We didn’t see it in person, but we heard about Meithof dropping 40 points in a game against Team Fly 16U so we checked out the film. The lefty sophomore wing was simply unstoppable whether it was going to the hoop or hitting from long range. Meithof is long and rangy and has above-average athleticism and is definitely a younger player to watch going forward this spring/summer.
