Atlanta Jam Day 1: Standouts
Day 1 of the Hoop Seen Atlanta Jam started on Friday night and I spent my time at the Suwanee Sports Complex where the 17U talent was on full display.
Here is a look at the top performers.
Kario Oquendo, Jonathan Aybar & Joe Bamisile (Team Parsons 17U)
The length and strength of Team Parsons 17U are undeniable. The trio of 2020 athletes Kario Oquendo (6’5″ Astronaut guard – 14 points), Joe Bamisile (6’4″ Virginia Monacan guard – 13 points) and Jonathan Aybar (6’8″ Central Pointe Christian forward – 12 points) were steady as can be in an evening win over Miami Tropics. Oquendo was explosive at the basket while Bamisile paced him with his shooting ability and proved why his recent commitment to Northwestern is a solid one. Aybar continues to improve with his foot speed and driving ability.
Dionte Blanch & Carr Thiam (Team Speights 17U)
Team Speights came to play in a hard fought victory over Team WHBH. 2020 6’4″ East Lake guard Dionte Blanch had a team-best 15 points doing his thing as an aggressor on both ends of the floor. He had some high flying dunks that sparked his side. Pacing him was 2020 6’4″ Wharton guard Carr Thiam with 13 points. He was moving the ball down the floor and making his mid-range and drives to the rack often.
Dujuan Fripp, Bailey Stephanos & Tim Dalger (Ball4Lyfe United 17U)
Dujuan Fripp was one of the best unsigned seniors in the gym on Friday night. The 6’0″ Palm Beach Lakes guard had 19 points for Ball4Lyfe United in a win. Also, shooting has always been on 2019 Bailey Stephanos’ side and the 6’0″ Dwyer unsigned senior had16 points with four 3’s in the opening half. Also, 6’6″ guard Tim Dalger fought his way to 15 points. He plans to go the prep route as a 2020 prospect.
Kelton Talford & Dallan Wright ( Carolina Pressure 17U)
In a win over the South Florida Rockets, 2020 duo Kelton Talford (22 points) and Dallan Wright (17 points) were really active and tough to slow down on the attack. Talford is a 6’6″ wing from South Carolina Great Falls and he made the most of his free space in transition. Wright, a 6’1″ guard from Saluda was just as special as a shooter with 17 points.
David Herard & Inady Legiste (South Florida Rockets 17U)
Fresh off a high school season where they won a Class 6A state title for Stranahan, 2020 pair David Herard and Inady Legiste carried the brunt of the load for the South Florida Rockets against Carolina Pressure . Legiste was going inside early and often with a team-high 17 points at his 6’6″ frame. Herard, a 6’0″ guard used his football like explosiveness with a 16-point night.
