And while the stay in the playoffs didn’t last long, Brian Warinner was pleased with how the year went. The steady 6-foot-7, 185-pound forward had a banner senior season and as he figures out his next step in his basketball career, he is able to reflect back on some good times with the Lava Bears.
“I had a lot of fun with some guys that I’ve played with for a very long time,” Warinner said. “I just enjoyed this year and I’m looking forward to whatever comes next.”
What’s next is of course college. Warinner has a lot going on with his college recruitment and he caught us up with the latest. “Right now I’m just waiting on some admissions decisions but I’m getting close to making a decision,” Warinner said. “I think probably in mid-April I should know. It still kind of changes, but right now it’s Emory, Academy of Art University, Lewis-Clark State, Northwest Christian, Western Oregon, Humboldt State, and Fort Lewis as well. I’m still figuring some stuff out.”
Warinner had previously made visits to all of the aforementioned schools on his list and currently holds offers from Academy of Art, Lewis-Clark State, and Northwest Christian. He’s got another trip on the docket. “I’m going to check out Incarnate Word in Texas – I’m pretty sure that will be like a preferred walk-on sort of deal,” he continued. “But other than that I don’t think I have any other visits planned.”
Warinner reiterated that much of what happens will depend on how the admissions process works out. “I think once I know what all my options are it will make my decision easier and it will be whatever feels right,” Warinner said. “But it’s going to be a hard decision for sure.”
Since any kind of decision will likely happen in a few weeks, Warinner has been putting his focus on his next game – the Oregon-Washington Northwest Shootout for which he earned a spot on the roster. “It’s really exciting,” Warinner said. “I think we’ve got a good squad and I’m ready to work with a bunch of good guys. It will be really fun. I’m looking forward to it.”
Warinner currently ranks as the #5 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
