No. 1 North Mecklenburg 87, No. 8 Mooresville 61
North Mecklenburg HS had little trouble with #8 seed, Mooresville HS in the 3:30 opener, of the I-Meck 4A Conference Tournament, as Tristan Maxwell led the way with 23 points.
Tristan Maxwell, a 6-3 guard led the way for Coach Duane Lewis’s Vikings with 23 points. The son of former Houston Rocket shooting guard, Vernon “Mad Max” Maxwell, Tristan can really play. He has excellent basketball instincts and savvy.
Simply put, Tristan can put the ball in the hole.
He hit two treys among his buckets, on his way to the 23 point performance
He shoots it well both from the arc and from mid-range, plus he finishes well in transition.
Trayden Williams, a 6-1 170, junior guard, added 12 points for North Mecklenburg. He’s a solid guard, with solid handles and a very good mid-range stroke.
Chris Ford, a 6-5 200, sophomore forward added 12 points and a like number of rebounds. This young man has started since the first game of his freshman year.
He is a beast, but he is an undersized one at 6-5. He has a big heart and a knack of rebounding and scoring the basketball.
Stay tuned on this young man, who plays with CP3 AAU. His coach Duane Lewis has the ability to help his players get the skills that they will need at the next level.
Shamann Artis, a 6-1 170, junior guard ran the point, at times in the absence of starting point guard Demar Anderson,
Shamann is a very solid player, with good quickness. He’s a combo guard, who is comfortable running the 1G position. He finished with 12 points in this game, including consecutive treys early in the 4th quarter.

FOR MOORESVILLE HS:
Mooresville was scrappy, but they were undersized against the very talented and experienced Vikings.
The Blue Devils got double figure scoring from senior guards, AJ Stewart and Shy Smith and scrappy play from their third captain and fellow senior guard Griffen White.
Sophomores Aavanth Ezhilan, Glenwood Robinson and Lamont Thornton each had some bright moments for Mooresville, combining for 23 points off the bench.
Ezhilan is a solid shooter and Robinson is a strong athlete, with solid game, while Thornton, a 6-3 forward, is a very good athlete, who with some extra skill work can be a very good player and potentially play in college.
