But the shifty 6-foot, 170-pound guard from Barlow High School remains unsatisfied. Always his own biggest critic, White is contiunally trying to hone his game, knowing that while putting points on the board certainly is good but he’s aiming to do more – for his team and for his own college recruitment.
“I think they could be better, I’m going to be honest,” White said. “I think some of my decision – I’ve forced some (shots) and as a player going forward I need to pick my spots more and create for others a little more too.”
At the Les Schwab, White lit up the scoreboard averaging 26.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists and posted a career-high 39 points in the team’s second game against Churchill. So far this season Barlow has run through the gauntlet of 6A teams on their schedule having played Jefferson (win), Tualatin (win), Lake Oswego (loss), and Jesuit (loss). While the Bruins lost their last two games at the LSI to Skyview and Columbia Christian, the experience should pay off according to the junior.
“We wanted a tough schedule as we knew we were going to be good,” White said. “I think that’s going to make us better in the long run. So we’re trying to stay competitive with these teams as we’re one of the best, so it fits for us and hopefully we’ll just win some games.”
On the recruiting front, White continues to stay in contact with a few schools such as UC San Diego, Portland State, and Western Oregon. “It’s been pretty low key,” White said. “I’m just hoping to get more interest.”
Instead the rest of the season is ahead – including a big Tuesday night matchup against who should be their top competition in the Mt Hood Conference this year. “We’re looking forward to Central (Catholic),” White said. “We haven’t played them and they look good, so we’re looking toward that but we’re also trying to take care of business. We have some lower ranked teams in our conference but you’ve got to take care of business no matter who you play. We’ve got to lock in and be ready.”
White currently ranks as the #2 player in the PrepHoops Class of 2020 rankings.
