Green Bay Preble – New Coach Andy Bobholz, Active Record: 9-4
Until the Bobholz era, Preble had flirted with double-digit wins once (2013-14) in the last decade. Now, with the same player crop but new leadership, they’re bound with Bay Port for third in the Fox River Conference ranking. They’ve won games against Xavier, DePere, and Pulaski, all programs that routed Preble in prior seasons.
Appleton North – New Coach Chris Kellett, Active Record: 6-9
Through a full season, teams are subjected to normal wear-and-tear. But, Appleton North lost twenty-two of twenty-three games, a different narrative altogether. After that season, they saw a change in leadership, as the program was now under head coach, Chris Kellett. Kellett spoon fed confidence to his players, eventually nudging the program in the right direction. At 6-9, there is still more nudging to be done and more kindling to the teams’ fire, but all things considered, sitting at eighth through their conference slate is a welcome sight. Not to mention, Maximus Nelson has come up through the framework and become a rising star for the program.
Oak Creek – New Coach Kyle Johnsen, Active Record: 7-8
Oak Creek is in much of the same scenario as North coming off of a 1-22 season. In the Southeast conference that harbors programs like Racine Park and Franklin, they jumped from last place to sixth. And, they’re trading haymakers with the best in the conference. Despite losing to Franklin, the score was tight until the finish where Franklin won by just two points. Kudos to Johnsen and Kellet, two coaches who have steaming hot futures at their respective programs.
Milwaukee Lutheran – New Coach Mark Jackson, Active Record: 12-2
After a 12-10 season for Lutheran, a coaching change prompted a 12-2 record (so far). They’re second in the Woodland East conference, and are just one game down from first place.
