In determining the post-season bracket, most everything is defined by the OSAA rankings but there are several rules that are followed. These are three of the top ones:
– There are three (3) automatic qualifiers from each league
– Each league champion is guaranteed a home game and thus, a top 16 seed
– Same league matchups are avoided in the first round, so teams may be moved around to accomodate
Based on the OSAA rankings as of Sunday night (1/27) and these three rules, we come up with the following bracket (home teams are in grey):
The exceptions that we needed to employ included:
– Liberty earned a spot in the #32 slot, replacing Beaverton, since the Falcons earn a post-season berth as they currently rank #3 in the Pacific League.
– Bend was moved up to #24 from #26 and Sandy (previously #25) and Gresham (#26) were each moved down a spot to avoid meeting fellow Mt Hood Conference member Barlow in the first round
– Sheldon and Franklin switched places to avoid a first round PIL matchup against Grant
– Newberg was moved up to #29 from #31 and Benson and Cleveland were each moved down a spot to avoid meeting fellow PIL member Jefferson in the first round.
How will the actual bracket end up? Stay tuned in the second half of the season to see!
