Coral Springs 55, Somerset Pines 40
St. Thomas Aquinas 83, Hialeah American 55
Miami High 57, Coral Springs Charter 34

Miami Norland 53, Riviera Beach Suncoast 49 (OT)
South Miami 52, Stranahan 50
Deerfield Beach 51, Chaminade-Madonna 39
Here are 5 Takeaways from action at Chaminade-Madonna:
Mater Academy freshman real deal
Mater Academy freshman Malik Reneau is going to be a problem for opposing defenses for years to come.
The 6-foot-6 standout, who said he has grown 4 inches in the past year, poured home 36 points in the victory over Davie Western. Reneau did his damage on 16 field goals and 4 free throws.
The left-hander has excellent footwork, a nice soft touch and is a load to handle when he gets position in the post.
“He’s as good as there is at that age,” Mater Academy coach Shakey Rodriguez said. “I’ve coached a lot of great players and he’s right there with them.”
Reneau led Mater to its 11th win in 13 games. The two losses were to unbeaten Doral Academy and SLAM at the A-Rod Classic in early December.
“I am doing good,” Reneau said. “I am just developing every time I get in the gym.”
Brandon Sanders a game-changer
Look for South Miami center Brandon Sanders to make a major jump on recruiting boards in 2019.
The 6-10 junior is already a game-changer in the lane with his shot-blocking and rebounding ability. As Sanders develops his offensive game, his stock will soar. He announced he will be playing with Team Breakdown this spring and summer on the Under Armour Association circuit.
Asked what he is working on most, Sanders said: “Trying to work on my post. Get my post in, shooting the ball more, running the floor better and just bulk up a little bit more weight-wise.”
He hopes playing on the UAA circuit will lead to more exposure … and offers.
“Playing with a travel team, I know there are going to be a lot more trainers and stuff,” Sanders said. “I want to take advantage of that. Make myself better as a player.”
School-record 19 3-pointers
Senior guard R.J. Taylor knocked in nine 3-pointers Saturday on the way to a 31-point performance as St. Thomas Aquinas connected on a school-record 19 3s in whipping Hialeah American.
“We shot the ball really good today,” Raiders coach Steve Strand said. “I thought we passed the ball better than anything else today. That helped us get open looks and we made the shots.”
St. Thomas Aquinas 6-9 big Shane Hunter, who just committed to Nova Southeastern University, had 9 points for the Raiders (8-7).
2021s key Miami High
Miami High coach Javorie Wilson has three impressive sophomores in Justin Neely, Taderrius Davis and James McBride.
The 6-5 Neely (pictured) is the leader of the pack and has the Stingarees in a first-place tie for the district lead with North Miami.
“We’ve got a pretty young team, but we all play together and that’s the only reason why we’re winning,” said Neely, the son of former University of Miami offensive lineman Damond Neely. “Everybody knows their role and everybody does their job.”
Of Neely, Wilson said: “Very coachable. Loves the game. Excellent skill set. Great student. Leader. All of those qualities any Division I coach can win with that. He’s definitely already a mid-major player. He’s going to fill out, too.”
CS Charter trio on shelf
Coral Springs Charter is out to a 12-5 start but has been hit by the injury bug.
“We’ve got three starters out,” coach Lamar Twitty said.
The Panthers were without 6-foot point guard Yugivon Jeanty, 6-5 Johnny Kerinsant and 6-6 Ian Tajalli. All three are juniors.
Jeanty (sprained ankle) and Tajalli (back) are expected back next week. Kerinsant (stress fracture foot) should be back in two weeks, Twitty said.
Somerset Pines, unfortunately, has been even more snakebitten. Somerset has lost 6-7 2019 Vashon Bailey (shoulder), 6-5 2020 Tyson Civil Jr. (knee) and 6-1 2020 Brandon Garcia (knee) to injury.
